X-Men: Dark Phoenix Trailer – James McAvoy & Michael Fassbender face a new threat

2nd October 2018 By Tim Isaac

Synopsis: ‘In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain.

‘With Jean spiralling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

New The Snowman Trailer – Michael Fassbender is tracking a serial killer

7th September 2017 By Tim Isaac

There have been a couple of good Scandinvian film adaptations of Jo Nesbo’s novels (Headhunters in particular), but now he’s going Hollywood, with a movie that will bring his most famous character, detective Harry Hole, to the screen. Michael Fassbender is taking on the role in The Snowman, which has just released its first trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Michael Fassbender (X-Men series), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation), Charlotte Gainsbourg (Independence Day: Resurgence) and J.K. Simmons star in The Snowman, a terrifying thriller from director Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), based on Jo Nesbø’s global bestseller.

‘When an elite crime squad’s lead detective (Fassbender) investigates the disappearance of a victim on the first snow of winter, he fears an elusive serial killer may be active again. With the help of a brilliant recruit (Ferguson), the cop must connect decades-old cold cases to the brutal new one if he hopes to outwit this unthinkable evil before the next snowfall.’

The film is due out in the UK in October. Take a look at the trailer and first poster below. [Read more…]

Our Score

After witnessing the aftermath of his mother’s murder as a child, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) has been on the run and fighting to survive, something that’s left him on death row. After his ‘execution’, he wakes up in a strange facility. The people who run it, led by Sofia (Marion Cotillard), have gotten hold of him because they want to awaken the ‘genetic memories’ he holds, which they can access through a machine called the Animus.

Once attached the contraption, he relives events that took place 500 years ago involving his ancestor, Aguilar de Nerha, who was part of The Assassins, a secret group fighting to stop the Templars taken over Christendom and ruling it with an iron fist. That involves a search for the Apple of Eden, where man’s freewill comes from. [Read more…]

Our Score

After the end of the First World War, former soldier Tom Sherbourne (Michael Fassbender) takes a job as the keeper of an isolated lighthouse off the coast of Australia. While he’s hoping for some time alone, he’s surprised to find romance with the young Isabel (Alicia Vikander), who soon becomes his wife. Their happiness on the remote island is hampered by the fact she loses several children during pregnancy.

Fate then intervenes when a boat washes up on the shore with a dead man and a live baby in it. While Tom knows he must signal the mainland about this unexpected development, his wife realises that if they stay silent, no one is likely to question whether the child was theirs or not. After deciding to keep the baby girl, Tom accidentally discovers whose child it really is, and that there’s a grieving mother on the mainland. [Read more…]

New Alien: Covenant Trailer – The xenomorphs are back on a whole new planet

1st March 2017 By Tim Isaac

The new Alien: Covenant trailer is certainly intriguing. After the mixed reaction to Prometheus, it’s certainly keen to show this will be a more typical Alien movie, while also suggesting it won’t be exactly the same as the earlier movies.

It also hints towards some mysteries, such as what spores have to do with the film, what a strange white monster that’s briefly glimpsed is, and exactly how it links to both Prometheus and later Alien movies. It’s all immensely tantalising.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘Set as the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant connects directly to Ridley Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. It begins with the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy. There, the crew discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David, survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.’

The movie will be in cinemas in May. Take a look at the new trailer and a new poster below. [Read more…]
