New Kubo and the Two Strings Trailer – Laika summons stop-motion spirits of the past

6th July 2016 By Tim Isaac

kubo-character-poster1-slideLaika has garnered a great reputation thanks to the likes of Coraline, Boxtrolls and ParaNorman. They’re sticking with stop-motion for their next movie, Kubo & The Two Strings, which has just launched a new trailer and some character posters, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Kubo and the Two Strings is an epic action-adventure set in a fantastical Japan from acclaimed animation studio LAIKA.  Clever, kindhearted Kubo (voiced by Art Parkinson of Game of Thrones) ekes out a humble living, telling stories to the people of his seaside town including Hosato (George Takei), Hashi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) and Kamekichi (Academy Award nominee Brenda Vaccaro).  But his relatively quiet existence is shattered when he accidentally summons a spirit from his past which storms down from the heavens to enforce an age-old vendetta.

‘Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey (Academy Award winner Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey), and sets out on a thrilling quest to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known.  With the help of his shamisen – a magical musical instrument – Kubo must battle gods and monsters, including the vengeful Moon King (Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes) and the evil twin Sisters (Academy Award nominee Rooney Mara)  to unlock the secret of his legacy, reunite his family and fulfill his heroic destiny.’

Swiss Army Man Red Band Trailer – Daniel Radcliffe’s farting corpse gets ruder

10th May 2016 By Tim Isaac

swiss-army-man-daniel-radcliffeSwiss Army Man is a film first, as it’s almost certainly the only movie in history that almost immediately become knows as the ‘farting corpse movie’. It’s also resulted in the most unlikely headline for a post I think I’ve ever written. The first trailer gave us a taste of just how bizarre and Daniel Radcliffe and Paul Dano movie was, and now that’s been amplified with a Red Band trailer.

It also gives us our first look at Radcliffe’s much talked about boner compass!

The film follows a castaway man (Dano), who has reached the end of his tether living alone when a corpse (Radcliffe) washes up on the island. The movie charts the growing relationship between the man and flatulent dead guy, which as you’ll see below, gets increasingly surreal and rather romantic.

Swiss Army Man is apparently a real audience divider, but it certainly looks intriguing. Expect to see it in cinemas later this year. And in case you’re wondering the scene right at the end is one that got many people talking, where Radcliffe is ridden like a jet-ski, powered by his farts! [Read more…]
