Isle Of Dogs Trailer – Wes Anderson returns to stop-motion for a quirky tale

24th September 2017 By Tim Isaac

Wes Anderson has always loved stop-motion animation, which has been used in several of his live-action films, as well as his animated take on Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr. Fox. Now he’s returning to the medium for the idiosyncratic Isle Of Dogs.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘ISLE OF DOGS tells the story of Atari Kobayashi, 12-year-old ward to corrupt Mayor Kobayashi. When, by Executive Decree, all the canine pets of Megasaki City are exiled to a vast garbage-dump called Trash Island, Atari sets off alone in a miniature Junior-Turbo Prop and flies across the river in search of his bodyguard-dog, Spots. There, with the assistance of a pack of newly-found mongrel friends, he begins an epic journey that will decide the fate and future of the entire Prefecture.’

The film is due in cinemas March 2018. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

1974’s film version of Agatha Christie’s Murder On The Orient Express is renowned for its all-star cast (including  Albert Finney (as Hercule Poirot), Sean Connery, Ingrid Bergman, John Gielgud, Vanessa Redgrave, Michael York and Jacqueline Bisset). Kenneth’s Branagh’s new take also wants to make sure there are plenty of recognisable face.

Branagh himself is playing the detective, Hercule Poirot (complete with ridiculous moustache), who’s joined on the journey by the likes of Johnny Depp, Daisy Ridley, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penelope Cruz, Josh Gad, Michael Pena, Judi Dench, Leslie Odom Jnr, and Derek Jacobi. The first trailer and poster for the movie has now arrived, which you can take a look at below.

Tomb Raider Trailer – Alicia Vikander goes into action as Lara Croft

20th September 2017 By Tim Isaac

Want to know a coincidence? Two years after Angelina Jolie won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, she played Lara Croft in a Tomb Raider movie, and exactly the same will be true of Alicia Vikander. Our first look at the new filmic take on the classic videogame franchise has now arrived, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen.  Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class.  Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone.

Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan.  But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous.  Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown.  If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.’

Take a look at the trailer below. The movie will be in UK cinemas next March. [Read more…]

Wonderstruck Trailer – Director Todd Haynes takes us into a Bowie-backed world

20th September 2017 By Tim Isaac

A couple of years after director Todd Haynes wowed Cannes with the rapturously received Carol, he returned to the festival this year with Wonderstruck. The movie also got good notices for it’s take on two children, born 50 years apart.

Apparently the music of David Bowie infuses the whole thing, as evidenced by the trailer below. Oakes Fegley, Millicent Simmonds, Julianne Moore and Michelle Williams star.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Dased on Brian Selznick’s critically acclaimed novel Ben and Rose are children from two different eras who secretly wish their lives were different. Ben longs for the father he has never known, while Rose dreams of a mysterious actress whose life she chronicles in a scrapbook. When Ben discovers a puzzling clue in his home and Rose reads an enticing headline in the newspaper, both children set out on quests to find what they are missing that unfold with mesmerizing symmetry.’

The film will be released in the US on October 20th. No UK date is currently set. [Read more…]

Linda Hamilton Will Be Back As Sarah Connor In A New Terminator Movie

20th September 2017 By Tim Isaac

It’s been a long time since Linda Hamilton played Sarah Connor. She stepped away from the franchise after Terminator 2 back in 1991. However, now that James Cameron is returning to produce what he hopes will be a new trilogy, Hamilton has decided she’d be happy to return to the role too.

Arnie is also attached to the new films, with Tim Miller (Deadpool), set to direct.

THR first reported on the news of Hamilton’s return, reporting Cameron as saying, “As meaningful as she was to gender and action stars everywhere back then [when T2 was made], it’s going to make a huge statement to have that seasoned warrior that she’s become return… There are 50-year-old, 60-year-old guys out there killing bad guys, but there isn’t an example of that for women.”

At the moment there’s no info on the plot or how the original Sarah Connor will fit into it. Indeed, it appears that they’re currently still piecing the overarching storyline of the trilogy together, but now know they can include Hamilton within those plans. There is one nugget Cameron has released about the movies, saying “We’re starting a search for an 18-something woman to be the new centerpiece of the new story. We still fold time. We will have characters from the future and the present. There will be mostly new characters, but we’ll have Arnold and Linda’s characters to anchor it.”
