New Tomb Raider Trailer – Alicia Vikander goes into action as Lara Croft

18th January 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Videogame to movie adaptations don’t exactly have a great reputation, and the Angelina Jolie Tomb raider movies have been reviled by many. However, Hollywood has decided it’s worth having another go, with Alicia Vikander stepping into Lara Croft’s boots.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen.  Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class.  Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father’s global empire just as staunchly as she rejects the idea that he’s truly gone.

Advised to face the facts and move forward after seven years without him, even Lara can’t understand what drives her to finally solve the puzzle of his mysterious death.Going explicitly against his final wishes, she leaves everything she knows behind in search of her dad’s last-known destination: a fabled tomb on a mythical island that might be somewhere off the coast of Japan.  But her mission will not be an easy one; just reaching the island will be extremely treacherous.  Suddenly, the stakes couldn’t be higher for Lara, who—against the odds and armed with only her sharp mind, blind faith and inherently stubborn spirit—must learn to push herself beyond her limits as she journeys into the unknown.  If she survives this perilous adventure, it could be the making of her, earning her the name tomb raider.’

Take a look at the new trailer below. The movie will be in UK cinemas on March 16th. [Read more…]

Tomb Raider Trailer – Alicia Vikander goes into action as Lara Croft

20th September 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Want to know a coincidence? Two years after Angelina Jolie won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar, she played Lara Croft in a Tomb Raider movie, and exactly the same will be true of Alicia Vikander. Our first look at the new filmic take on the classic videogame franchise has now arrived, which you can take a look at below.

First Official Look At Alicia Vikander As Lara Croft In Tomb Raider

27th March 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Despite an enormous amount of hype, the attempt to bring Tomb Raider to the big screen with Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft, underperformed at the box office. However, Hollywood has decided to have another go, this time with Alicia Vikander in the main role.

The first image has now arrived, which suggests this take won’t be a glossy and shiny as the earlier movies, instead reflecting the more realistic look the video games had in later instalments.

Here’s the newly released synopsis: ‘Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. The film is currently due in cinemas March 2018.

Alicia Vikander Will Be The New Lara Croft In Tomb Raider Film Reboot

1st May 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

alicia-vikander-man-from-uncleWhile there was a lot of hype around Angelina Jolie playing video game character Lara Croft, neither 2001’s Tomb Raider, notr its 2003 follow-up, Cradle Of Life, found much love from audiences. However, Hollywood is convinced there’s a franchise in there and so has been busy planning a reboot.

Now it looks like they’ve found the person they want as the new Croft, Alicia Vikander, according to THR. It oddly mimics Jolie’s casting, as Angelina had just broken through with a critically acclaimed, Oscar-winning performance when she got the role of Lara, while Vikander has just broken through with the likes of Ex Machina and an Oscar-nominated performance in The Danish Girl.

Earlier reports suggest Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Daisy Ridley was being eyed to star, but it appears a formal offer never materialised, while Cara Delevigne also got close to landing the role. Roar Uthuag (The Wave) is set to direct the movie, although it’s not 100% clear when it will shoot.
