New Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer – Alden Ehrenreich explores an iconic character’s beginning

10th April 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After an extremely muted response to the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story, there was a lot riding on this new promo for the film about the early days of the iconic Han Solo. This one certainly makes things look at lot more entertaining and suggests Alden Ehrenreich might be a better Harrison Ford replacement that the previous trailer did.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo befriends his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and meets the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

‘The film stars Alden Ehrenreich, Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, and Paul Bettany.’

‘Ron Howard directs “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” and Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are the producers. Lawrence Kasdan, Jason McGatlin, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller serve as executive producers. Jonathan Kasdan & Lawrence Kasdan wrote the screenplay. “Solo: A Star Wars Story” opens in UK cinemas 24th May.’ [Read more…]

Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer – An iconic character gets younger in the form of Alden Ehrenreich

5th February 2018 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

The planned Han Solo prequel has certainly had production issues, not least swapping directors partway through the shoot, with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller ejected, and Ron Howard brought in. However, issues during the making of Rogue One didn’t stop that being a good movie, so there’s still hope here. It is slightly difficult to get a proper feel for the film from this first trailer though.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.’

The movie is due out in May. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Ron Howard Is Taking Over As Director Of The Han Solo Star Wars Spin-off

22nd June 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

While occassionally a director is sidelined during the post-production period, it’s incredibly unusual for them to be ousted while filming is still going on. However, that’s what’s happened on the planned Han Solo spin-off movie, with Lucasfilm and helmer Phil Lord and Christopher Miller parting company with three weeks left on the production schedule.

Reports suggest executives felt the directors weren’t hitting the right tone, and that the creative differences they’d had with Lord and Miller since early in pre-production just getting worse. It’s rumoured that the directors’ comedic, improvisational style made some concerned they didn’t really understand the character of Han Solo or the script they were working from, while the footage they were producing made it difficult to tell what the finished movie might be like.

However, with production underway they’ve had to act quickly to plug the gap, with THR reporting that Ron Howard has come onboard to helm the movie. Howard was previously offered The Phantom Menace, but passed that opportunity up, but now the Da Vinci Code helmer will take over the Han Solo movie, finish principle shooting and then guide the film through its extensive post-production process. Lucasfilm will be hoping he can pull things together to their satisfaction.

The studio comments, “At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began 40 years ago. With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew and the absolute commitment to make a great movie.”

Production will resume on July 10th, once Howard has had a chance to familiarise himself with the project and see what he thinks it needs.

Interestingly, it’s not known yet who will get the directors’ credit on the finished film. The Directors’ Guild usually only allows a single director, and is likely to be very unhappy about allowing three, even if that would seem the most sensible option.

The Dark Tower Reveals Its First Poster

19th March 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After a long a tortuous road to the screen, Hollywood is hoping for big things from the adaptation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series of novels. With a July release set, it’s almost surprising we haven’t seen more about it by now, but a poster has been revealed to give us a glimpse of this world.

Expect a trailer to follow soon.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘

Stephen King’s The Dark Tower is the most ambitious and expansive story from one of the world’s most celebrated authors.  Now, the story makes its long-awaited launch to the big screen, starring Idris Elba as Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as Walter O’Dim.  The film is being directed by Nikolaj Arcel (A Royal Affair), with a screenplay by Akiva Goldsman & Jeff Pinkner and Anders Thomas Jensen & Nikolaj Arcel, based on King’s novels.  Producers on the film are Akiva Goldsman, Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Erica Huggins.’

Idris Elba Takes On The Dark Tower In A Selection Of New Pics

17th July 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

dark-tower-pic2-slideThe adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower has had a difficult journey to the screen. It’s been talked about for decades, and while this got serious in the last few years with the likes of Javier Bardem attached to the project, it’s stalled numerous times, not least Universal getting cold feet about committing to three films and two connecting TV series.

However, now Sony Picture has taken over, Ron Howard is behind the camera, and Idris Elba is starring as gunslinger Roland Deschain. The character is busying tracking the evil Man In Black (Matthew McConaughey) across various dimension, to try and stop him destroying The Dark Tower, which is where all universes meet.

One of the more interesting things about Dark Tower is the fact that while it’s a fantasy/western series, it connects to many other King novels via characters and places. It appears that will remain to a certain extent, with the movie using a child called Jake, who has a power called ‘The Shine’, which of course refers to Danny’s power in The Shining (although they can’t call the power The Shining, as Warner Bros. owns the rights to that).

A selection of new images from the movie have now arrived, which you can take a look at below. The film is due out next February. [Read more…]

New Inferno Trailer – Tom Hanks needs to stop a Dante-inspired plague

24th June 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

inferno-slideTom Hanks and director Ron Howard are back in the world of Dan Brown adaptations, with a movie that will hopefully sort out the mess that was Inferno (and that’s coming from someone who quite enjoyed the other Robert Langdon novels). The new trailer certainly isn’t too bad though.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Academy Award winner Ron Howard returns to direct the latest bestseller in Dan Brown’s (Da Vinci Code) billion-dollar Robert Langdon series, Inferno, which finds the famous symbologist (again played by Tom Hanks) on a trail of clues tied to the great Dante himself. When Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), a doctor he hopes will help him recover his memories. Together, they race across Europe and against the clock to foil a deadly global plot.’

The movie will be out in cinemas in October. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]
