Our Score

It’s a movie 10-years in the making (at least this attempt took 10 year), but when it arrived in cinemas The Dark Tower was met with negative reviews and muted box office. It currently has a pretty abysmal 16% on RottenTomatoes and just 5.9/10 from viewers on IMDB. So is it really that bad? No, it’s not, but its easy to understand why it’s had such bad reactions.

The film focuses on teenager Jake (Tom Taylor), who’s been having strange visions of a giant tower at the centre of the universe and the ‘Man In Black’ (Matthew McConaughey), who’s determined to destroy it. While those around him are beginning to think Jake is becoming unhinged, the teen discovers what he’s been seeing is real. [Read more…]

Matthew McConaughey Circling Villainous Role In Stephen King’s The Dark Tower

17th November 2015 By Tim Isaac

Matthew-McConaugheyFor decades Hollywood has been talking about adapting Stephen King’s popular series of novels, The Dark Tower. A couple of years ago it looked like it was going to happen with Ron Howard at the helm and both interlinked films and TV series proposed. However, it all fell apart over money and the studio reluctant to guarantee they’d see the whole thing through to the end.

Now though the adaptation is back on track, with Howard still involved as a producer, but Nikolaj Arcel set to direct. Now they’re looking to cast the film, with THR reporting that Matthew McConaughey may play the villain known as the Man in Black.

It’s very early stages though, and McConaughey hasn’t yet officially entered negotiations, although he has had a meeting with Arcel, and it appears they’d like him onboard.

Set in a fantasy version of the Wild West, King’s novels follow Deschain, the last in a long line of gunfighters, who journeys to The Dark Tower in a last-ditch effort to save humanity. Up against him is a demonic sorcerer who may be played by McConaughey.
