I, Tonya Teaser Trailer – Margot Robbie turns ice skating saboteur (maybe)

1st November 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

In the 1990s Tonya Harding was a top figure skater, but rather than her achievments on the ice, she’s now mainly remembered for being linked to an attack on her rival, Nancy Kerrigan, who was her main competition on the US team. Margot Robbie is now bringing the story to life with I, Tonya, which has released its first full trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on unbelievable but true events, I, TONYA is the darkly comedic tale of American figure skater Tonya Harding and one of the most sensational scandals in sports history. Though Harding was the first American woman to complete a triple axel in competition, her legacy has forever been defined by her association with an infamous, ill-conceived and worse-executed attack on fellow Olympic competitor Nancy Kerrigan. Featuring an iconic turn by Margot Robbie as the fiery Harding, a mustachioed Sebastian Stan as her impetuous ex-husband Jeff Gillooly, a tour-de-force performance from Allison Janney as her acid-tongued mother LaVona Golden, and an original screenplay by Steven Rogers, Craig Gillespie’s I, TONYA is an absurd, irreverent, and piercing portrayal of Harding’s life and career in all of its unchecked––and checkered––glory.’

I, Tonya is getting an Oscar-qualifying run in New York and Los Angeles from December 8th, 2017. It should arrive in the UK early next year. Take a look at the teaser trailer below. [Read more…]

Captain America: Civil War Trailer – Get your first look at Tom Holland’s Spider-man

10th March 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

captain-america-civil-war-spider-manWhile there have been quite a few images and posters for Captain America: Civil War, they’ve deliberately shied away from showing us one of the main things everyone wants to see – Spider-man’s first appearance in a Marvel movie. The deal between Sony and Marvel allowed it to happen, and Tom Holland was cast in the role, with Civil War marking his first appearance before he gets a standalone movie.

However, the new Captain America: Civil War makes the big reveal, so get a good look at the new Spidey below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

‘Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Emily VanCamp, Frank Grillo and Martin Freeman, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl.

‘Anthony & Joe Russo are directing with Kevin Feige producing. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The screenplay is by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” opens in U.K. cinemas on 29 April, 2016.’ [Read more…]

Captain America: Civil War Character Posters Emerge

7th March 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

captain-america-civil-war-character1-slideI’m presuming next year’s crop of tenpole movies will see a lot of superheroes heading off for relationship counselling, as this year they’re all fighting. After Batman v Superman we’ll be getting Captain America: Civil War, which will see the Avengers fighting with one another, with the two sides led by the Cap and Iron Man.

It’s all going to get very messy, with most of the Marvel line-up involved, except for Thor and Hulk (who are presumably off getting ready for Thor: Ragnarok, which will feature both of them). To help prepare us, a set of character posters have been released, which appear to show us the characters who will be on Captain America’s side. You can take a look at them below.

Captain America: Civil War Super Bowl Spot – New footage emerges from Avengers 2.5

8th February 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

captain-america-civil-war-poster1-slidePretty much everyone from Avengers is showing up in Captain America: Civil War, except for Thor and Hulk (but that’s because they’re teaming up for their own adventure). As a result, Marvel is hoping the film is going to be huge and so it’s no suprise they felt the need for a Super Bowl spot, which you can take a look at below.

Synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” picks up where “Avengers: Age of Ultron” left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

‘The movie stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Frank Grillo, Tom Holland, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl. Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” is directed by Anthony & Joe Russo and produced by Kevin Feige. Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee serve as executive producers and the screenplay is by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.’ [Read more…]

Ricki And The Flash (Blu-ray Review)

2nd January 2016 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

ricki-and-the-flash-slideStarring: Meryl Streep, Mamie Gummer, Kevin Kline, Sebastian Stan, Rick Springfield
Directed By: Jonathan Demme
Running Time: 101 mins
BBFC Certificate: 12
UK Release Date: December 28th 2015

Our Score

A film like Ricki And The Flash makes you realise just how good Meryl Streep is, as without her this film is likely to have gotten far worse reviews than it did. She is obviously having a great time in the lead role of an aging rockers whose dreams of stardom never really came to anything, and now finds herself somewhat estranged from her kids.

Ricki (whose real name is Linda) gets a call from her ex-husband, Pete (Kevin Kline), to tell her their daughter, Julie (Mamie Gummer), is severely depressed after her hubby ran off with another woman. Ricki jumps on a plane from California to Iowa and discovers things are worse than she thought, as Julie has attempted suicide. However, Julie seems to respond to having her mother around, even if her two sons are less impressed about having the mother who virtually abandoned them around. [Read more…]
