Robert Downey Jr. Set To Star In The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle

21st March 2017 By Tim Isaac

Robert Downey Jr. is set to follow in Rex Harrison’s footsteps by playing Doctor Dolittle, although it doesn’t look like it’ll be a musical this time. THR reports that Downey Jr. is planning to star in The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle, with Universal backing the movie.

Stephen Gaghan, best known for writing and directing more serious fare such as Syriana and Gold, in onboard to helm the film. Gaghan is also writing the script, based on an earlier version by Tom Shepherd.

The will be based around Hugh Lofting’s famous children’s character, a doctor who tires of treating animals and learns to speak to animals. Although there’s no news on the exact story for this new version, it looks like the Doctor will be going off on a big trip.

It was previously made into the Rex Harrison starring musical in 1960, while Eddie Murphy played a very different version of the character in 1998.

Robert Downey Jr. & Richard Linklater Team For Real-Life Con Man Tale

15th February 2017 By Tim Isaac

Richard Linklater went from the Oscar-winning triumph of Boyhood to a ho-hum reception for Everybody Wants Some!!, his spiritual successor to his breakthrough Dazed & Confused. Now he’s putting together something rather different to both those movies, as it’s been announced he’s teaming with Robert Downey Jr. for a real-life con man tale.

The movie will be based around an episode of the Reply All podcast titled ‘Man of the People’, which ‘tells the true story of charlatan Dr. John Brinkley who scams his way to fame and fortune using fake medicine, populism, and the newest technology of the time: radio. As Brinkley’s fame grows, he gets the attention of Dr. Morris Fishbein, editor of the AMA who begins a decade long quest to take him down. REPLY ALL, a show that features stories about how people shape technology, and how technology shapes people, aired “Man of the People” on January 19, 2017.’

It sounds like a good fit for the duo, with Downey Jr. set to play Brinkley, while his nemesis is yet to be cast. Megan Ellison‘s Annapurna Pictures is producing the movie, which as-yet doesn’t have a title.

Spider-man: Homecoming Trailer – Peter Parker gets some advice from Tony Stark

9th December 2016 By Tim Isaac

It’s here – the first trailer for Spider-man: Homecoming. It has to be said it’s pretty cool, with some great action, a menacing Michael Keaton as the Vulture, and Robert Downey Jr. showing up as Tony Stark to give the young Peter Parker a bit of advice.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.  Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.’

Take a look at the new trailer below (we’ve included both the international and US versions). It’ll be in cinemas next July. [Read more…]

Robert Downey Jr. To Appear In Spider-man: Homecoming

21st April 2016 By Tim Isaac

iron-man-3-downey-jrA couple of weeks ago Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige suggested that the deal between Marvel and Sony didn’t just mean Spidey would appear in Captain America: Civil War, but that some of the Marvel characters could make a trip to a standalone Spider-man movie. Now we know at least one person who’ll do that – Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark.

It’s a far cry from when Downey Jr. suggested he might hang up his Iron Man suit after the second Avengers movie, only to sign on for two more Avengers flicks and then Civil War. Now he’s extending things even further with an appearance in Spider-man: Homecoming, according to Variety.

What’s not known though is how big a role it will be. However with reports saying Downey Jr. has great chemistry with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in Civil War it certainly makes sense to bring them back together.

Jon Watts is due to direct Spider-man: Homecoming, which is due out July 2017.

Captain America: Civil War Trailer – Get your first look at Tom Holland’s Spider-man

10th March 2016 By Tim Isaac

captain-america-civil-war-spider-manWhile there have been quite a few images and posters for Captain America: Civil War, they’ve deliberately shied away from showing us one of the main things everyone wants to see – Spider-man’s first appearance in a Marvel movie. The deal between Sony and Marvel allowed it to happen, and Tom Holland was cast in the role, with Civil War marking his first appearance before he gets a standalone movie.

However, the new Captain America: Civil War makes the big reveal, so get a good look at the new Spidey below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

‘Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Emily VanCamp, Frank Grillo and Martin Freeman, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl.

‘Anthony & Joe Russo are directing with Kevin Feige producing. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The screenplay is by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” opens in U.K. cinemas on 29 April, 2016.’ [Read more…]
