Glass Trailer – The worlds of Unbreakable and Split meet

22nd July 2018 By Tim Isaac

M. Night Shyamalan pulled another of his trademark surprises in last year’s multiple personality thriller Split, when it was revealed the whole thing was taking place in the same universe as the director’s 2000 movie, Unbreakable. Now the worlds of those two films are coming together for glass.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘M. Night Shyamalan brings together the narratives of two of his standout originals—2000’s Unbreakable, from Touchstone, and 2016’s Split, from Universal—in one explosive, all-new comic-book thriller: Glass. From Unbreakable, Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from Split are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast. Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.’

Take a look at the trailer below. The film is due to hit cinemas next January. [Read more…]

Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden & Ian McKellen In Talks For Cats

22nd July 2018 By Tim Isaac

For a very long time there’s been talk about turning Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats into a movie. For various reasons – not least that despite its massive stage success it’s a very odd show, with very little plot and a far greater reliance on dance than mainstream cinema is often comfortable with. However, now it’s moving forward thanks to Tom Hooper (Les Miserables, The King’s Speech) coming on board to direct.

Now it’s starting to fill out the cast, with Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, and Ian McKellen all set to star, according to THR. They will all be members of the ‘jellicles’ a group of cats preparing for a ball where they will decide which of them will be given a new life. Hudson will play Grizabella (singer of the show’s most famous song, Memory), McKellan will be Old Deuteronomy, while Swift is likely to play the flirtatious Bombalurina. It’s not clear who Corden will be.

The current plan is for Hooper to shoot the live-action movie (rather than an animated film that often seemed to be Hollywood’s preferred option for Cats) in the UK later this year, with a script by Lee Hall (Billy Elliot). It should be in cinemas next year.

New Welcome to Marwen Trailer – Steve Carell creates a miniature world for Robert Zemeckis

18th July 2018 By Tim Isaac

Director Robert Zemeckis returns with Welcome To Marwen, which some think may be in the award season running next year (although it’s way too early to say). It’s certainly being lined up for an awards run with a late 2018 release planned. The new trailer shows it could be powerful if done right, showcasing Zemeckis’ love of bringing effects and technology to stories you might not initially think would need them.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Welcome to Marwen tells the miraculous true story of one broken man’s fight as he discovers how artistic imagination can restore the human spirit. When a devastating attack shatters Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell) and wipes away all memories, no one expected recovery. Putting together pieces from his old and new life, Mark meticulously creates a wondrous town where he can heal and be heroic. As he builds an astonishing art installation—a testament to the most powerful women he knows—through his fantasy world, he draws strength to triumph in the real one.

‘In a bold, wondrous and timely film from this revolutionary pioneer of contemporary cinema, Welcome to Marwen shows that when your only weapon is your imagination…you’ll find courage in the most unexpected place.’

Welcome To Marwen also stars, Leslie Mann, Diane Kruger, Eiza González, Gwendoline Christie, and Janelle Monae. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Overlord Trailer – Soldiers take on Nazi-created zombies in the JJ Abrams produced movie

18th July 2018 By Tim Isaac

You just can’t trust them Nazis, they’re always doing naughty things. That’s certainly true in Overlord, where the Nazis have created a village full of zombies.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.’

It’s the first R-rated movie from Bad Robot, JJ Abrams’ production company, and it certainly looks like it might be an interesting one (although probably not another secret Cloverfield movie that some have assumed it would be). Take a look at the trailer below. It’ll be in cinemas in October. [Read more…]
