Vice Trailer – Christian Bale transforms into former Vice President Dick Cheney

7th October 2018 By Tim Isaac

For a long time Adam McKay was just about comedy,  making movies with Will Ferrell such as Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers and The Other Guys. However, recently he’s been stretching his wings with the likes of The Big Short (for which he received two Oscar nominations) and now Vice.

The movie features another of Christian Bale’s trademark transformations, so he can play Vice President Dick Cheney. He stars alongside Amy Adams, Steve Carell and Sam Rockwell.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘VICE explores the epic story about how a bureaucratic Washington insider quietly became the most powerful man in the world as Vice-President to George W. Bush, reshaping the country and the globe in ways that we still feel today.’ Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Beautiful Boy Trailer – Timothee Chalamet has a meth problem!

24th September 2018 By Tim Isaac

Thanks to Call Me By You Name and Ladybird, Timothee Chalamet certainly became a name to be conjured with, not just because he’s ridiculously good-looking, but also because he’s insanely talented, especially for such a young man. He’s already getting more great-notices and awards buzz for Beautiful Boy, which sees him starring opposite Steve Carell as a teen dealing with a drug problem.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on the best-selling pair of memoirs from father and son David and Nic Sheff, BEAUTIFUL BOY chronicles the true and inspiring story of survival, relapse, and recovery in a family coping with addiction over many years.’ Maura Tierney and Amy Run also star, with Felix Van Groeningen directing.

The film is due in UK cinemas January 2019. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

New Welcome to Marwen Trailer – Steve Carell creates a miniature world for Robert Zemeckis

18th July 2018 By Tim Isaac

Director Robert Zemeckis returns with Welcome To Marwen, which some think may be in the award season running next year (although it’s way too early to say). It’s certainly being lined up for an awards run with a late 2018 release planned. The new trailer shows it could be powerful if done right, showcasing Zemeckis’ love of bringing effects and technology to stories you might not initially think would need them.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Welcome to Marwen tells the miraculous true story of one broken man’s fight as he discovers how artistic imagination can restore the human spirit. When a devastating attack shatters Mark Hogancamp (Steve Carell) and wipes away all memories, no one expected recovery. Putting together pieces from his old and new life, Mark meticulously creates a wondrous town where he can heal and be heroic. As he builds an astonishing art installation—a testament to the most powerful women he knows—through his fantasy world, he draws strength to triumph in the real one.

‘In a bold, wondrous and timely film from this revolutionary pioneer of contemporary cinema, Welcome to Marwen shows that when your only weapon is your imagination…you’ll find courage in the most unexpected place.’

Welcome To Marwen also stars, Leslie Mann, Diane Kruger, Eiza González, Gwendoline Christie, and Janelle Monae. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Last Flag Flying (Cinema Review)

24th January 2018 By Tim Isaac

Starring: Bryan Cranston, Steve Carell, Laurence Fishburne, J. Quinton Johnson, Deanna Reed-Foster
Directed by: Richard Linklater
Running time: 125 mins
BBFC Certificate: 15
UK Release Date: January 26th 2018

Our Score

Several films have taken Hollywood by surprise in recent years by finding an older audience than the male teen dudes the City of Angels believe are the only people who go to the pictures any more. From Wild Hogs to A Late Quartet and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, films with older characters having a crisis have actually found an audience – and a big one. Obviously, the quality is always going to be patchy. Wild Hogs, about three middle-aged men getting back on their Harleys, was juvenile and dull in the extreme, but it did prove not every Hollywood film needs to have nubile bodies in bikinis running around a beach.

Which brings us to Last Flag Flying. Like Wild Hogs it features three men who have seen better days, and features them hitting the road for one last adventure. However, the tone here is far more serious. Steve Carell’s son has been killed in action in the Iraq war in 2003, and, as his wife has died of breast cancer. With no one else to turn to, he looks up his two old buddies, Bryan Cranston and Laurence Fishburne. They are much changed however. Cranston is an alcoholic running a grubby bar, while Fishburne is a preacher. Both are trying to forget their past. The marines want to bury Carell’s son in Arlington cemetery “like a true hero”, but he wants to take him back to New Hampshire and bury him in his graduation gown, not his uniform. So the three of them set off on an unlikely road trip. [Read more…]

Battle Of The Sexes Trailer – Emma Stone’s Billie Jean King takes on Steve Carell at tennis

24th June 2017 By Tim Isaac

The 2013 documentary The Battle Of The Sexes reignited interested in a moment in tennis history that electrified the US back in 1973. Indeed, the doc sparked rival movies to go into development, with Fox Searchlight backing one starring Emma Stone and Steve Carell, while HBO was planning their own movie about the event. While the latter doesn’t look like it’s happening anymore, the trailer for the former has now arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the wake of the sexual revolution and the rise of the women’s movement, the 1973 tennis match between women’s World #1 Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) and ex-men’s-champ and serial hustler Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell) was billed as the BATTLE OF THE SEXES and became one of the most watched televised sports events of all time, reaching 90 million viewers around the world. As the rivalry between King and Riggs kicked into high gear, off-court each was fighting more personal and complex battles. The fiercely private King was not only championing for equality, but also struggling to come to terms with her own sexuality, as her friendship with Marilyn Barnett (Andrea Riseborough) developed. And Riggs, one of the first self-made media-age celebrities, wrestled with his gambling demons, at the expense of his family and wife Priscilla (Elisabeth Shue). Together, Billie and Bobby served up a cultural spectacle that resonated far beyond the tennis court, sparking discussions in bedrooms and boardrooms that continue to reverberate today.

BATTLE OF THE SEXES also stars Sarah Silverman (‘Masters of Sex’), Bill Pullman(The Equalizer) and Golden Globe® nominee Alan Cumming (‘The Good Wife’).’

The film is due out in the UK on October 20th. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]
