The Mule Trailer – Clint Eastwood is an octogenarian drug runner opposite Bradley Cooper

7th October 2018 By Tim Isaac

Clint Eastwood hasn’t starred in a film since 2012’s Trouble With The Curve, and hasn’t appeared in a movie he’s also directed since 2008’s Gran Torino. However, now he’s back pulling double duty in The Mule.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Clint Eastwood stars as Earl Stone, a man in his 80s who is broke, alone, and facing foreclosure of his business when he is offered a job that simply requires him to drive.  Easy enough, but, unbeknownst to Earl, he’s just signed on as a drug courier for a Mexican cartel.  He does well—so well, in fact, that his cargo increases exponentially, and Earl is assigned a handler.  But he isn’t the only one keeping tabs on Earl; the mysterious new drug mule has also hit the radar of hard-charging DEA agent Colin Bates.  And even as his money problems become a thing of the past, Earl’s past mistakes start to weigh heavily on him, and it’s uncertain if he’ll have time to right those wrongs before law enforcement, or the cartel’s enforcers, catch up to him.’

The Mule is in UK Cinemas January 2019. Bradley Cooper, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Peña, Dianne Wiest and Andy Garcia also star. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Last Flag Flying (Cinema Review)

Running time: 125 mins

Our Score

Several films have taken Hollywood by surprise in recent years by finding an older audience than the male teen dudes the City of Angels believe are the only people who go to the pictures any more. From Wild Hogs to A Late Quartet and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, films with older characters having a crisis have actually found an audience – and a big one. Obviously, the quality is always going to be patchy. Wild Hogs, about three middle-aged men getting back on their Harleys, was juvenile and dull in the extreme, but it did prove not every Hollywood film needs to have nubile bodies in bikinis running around a beach.

Which brings us to Last Flag Flying. Like Wild Hogs it features three men who have seen better days, and features them hitting the road for one last adventure. However, the tone here is far more serious. Steve Carell’s son has been killed in action in the Iraq war in 2003, and, as his wife has died of breast cancer. With no one else to turn to, he looks up his two old buddies, Bryan Cranston and Laurence Fishburne. They are much changed however. Cranston is an alcoholic running a grubby bar, while Fishburne is a preacher. Both are trying to forget their past. The marines want to bury Carell’s son in Arlington cemetery “like a true hero”, but he wants to take him back to New Hampshire and bury him in his graduation gown, not his uniform. So the three of them set off on an unlikely road trip. [Read more…]

Our Score

Picking up shortly after the events of the first John Wick, the titular character (Keanu Reeves) is attempting to once more leave the criminals underworld and his reputation as the ultimate killer behind. John has a debt to Santino that the rules of the underworld say he must repay, or his life is forfeit. Feeling he has no choice, John travels to Rome to do the deed. John Wick: Chapter 2 Super Bowl Spot – The action flick trolls Fifty Shades fans

6th February 2017 By Tim Isaac

You wouldn’t think those people who can’t wait for the release of Fifty Shades Darker would be the same ones hoping to watch John Wick: Chapter 2, but the action movie decided to have a bit of fun with them with its Super Bowl spot. The short ad initially looks like it will be for Fifty Shades, before revealing itself to be something else.

John Wick: Chapter 2 Trailer – Keanu Reeves is ready to kick ass once more!

19th December 2016 By Tim Isaac

John Wick got a lot of praise, not necessarily for its plot, but for its almost comic book style and for the quality of its action. Indeed, it reminded many of why pure action has always been so popular. Now it’s coming back for a sequel.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In this next chapter following the 2014 hit, legendary hitman John Wick [Keanu Reeves] is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bryan Cranston, Steve Carell, & Laurence Fishburne In Talks For Richard Linklater’s Next Film

31st August 2016 By Tim Isaac

bryan-cranstonA full decade ago Richard Linklater revealed that he was working on an adaptation Darryl Ponicsan‘s Last Flag Flying, a sequel to The Last Detail, which was made into a film in 1973 by Hal Ashby. At the time he was trying to get Randy Quaid and Jack Nicholson to return, but that never happened.

However, now the Boyhood helmer is back on the project, which will now only be a ‘sort of’ sequel. THR reports that he’s starting to put the cast together, with Bryan Cranston, Steve Carell, and Laurence Fishburne all in talks to star. The Last Detail, ‘centers on two Navy men (Nicholson, Young) who are ordered to bring a young offender (Quaid) to prison but decide to show him one last good time along the way. Last Flag reunites the reader with the trio, now living a post-9/11 American life: The former Naval petty officers come to the aid of their former prisoner, who needs their help to bring home the body of his son who was killed in Iraq. The request sends them back retracing their journey from Norfolk, Va., to Portsmouth, N.H.’

Linklater is hoping to start shooting the film in November.
