New Sicario: Day Of The Soldado Trailer – Josh Brolin & Benicio del Toro head back to the drug war

20th March 2018 By Tim Isaac

Sicario perhaps isn’t the most obvious candidate for a sequel, especially as director Denis Villeneuve has since moved onto the likes of Arrival and Blade Runner 2049. However, screenwriter Taylor Sheridan (Hell Or High Water) has returned to pen the screenplay, with Stefano Sollima (Gomorrah) stepping into the director’s chair.

Here’s the brief synopsis: ‘In Sicario 2: Soldado, the drug war on the US – Mexico border has escalated as the cartels have begun trafficking terrorists across the US border. To fight the war, federal agent Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) reteams with the mercurial Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro).’

The movie is due in cinemas next summer. Take a look at the new trailer for the film below. [Read more…]

Take Your First Look At Renee Zellweger Playing The Iconic Judy Garland

19th March 2018 By Tim Isaac

When Renee Zellweger returned to the public eye after a short career break, there were loads of (rather sexist) articles about how different she looked. Well, get ready not to recognise her again – but this time it’s deliberate, as she’s playing Judy Garland.

The image was released to mark the start of principal photography of Judy, which focuses on Garland’s legendary London concert series which took place shortly before she died.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Winter 1968 and showbiz legend Judy Garland arrives in Swinging London to perform in a sell-out run at The Talk of the Town.

‘It is 30 years since she shot to global stardom in THE WIZARD OF OZ, but if her voice has weakened, its dramatic intensity has only grown.

‘As she prepares for the show, battles with management, charms musicians, and reminisces with friends and adoring fans, her wit and warmth shine through. Even her dreams of romance seem undimmed as she embarks on a courtship with Mickey Deans, her soon-to-be fifth husband. And yet Judy is fragile. After working for 45 of her 47 years, she is exhausted; haunted by memories of a childhood lost to Hollywood; gripped by a desire to be back home with her kids. Will she have the strength to go on?

‘Featuring some of her best-known songs, including the timeless classic ‘Over the Rainbow’, JUDY celebrates the voice, the capacity for love and the sheer pizzazz of “the world’s greatest entertainer”.’

The movie also stars Jessie Buckley (War and Peace), Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story) and Michael Gambon (Harry Potter), with Rupert Goold (King Charles III) directing from a script by Tom Edge (The Crown). Take a look at the full image below.

Wrinkle In Time’s Ava DuVernay To Helm DC Superhero Movie, The New Gods

18th March 2018 By Tim Isaac

A Wrinkle In Time might not have been the all-conquering box office juggernaut many had hoped the first $100+ million budget film directed by a woman of colour would be. However, while historically a single underperforming film would knock a female director’s career massively off-track, Ava DuVernay is bucking that trend, with Deadline reporting that she’s set to direct The New Gods for DC/Warner Bros.

Deadline says of the Jack Kirby created comic, ‘The New Gods was the Genesis of the uber-villain Darkseid. Also called “Fourth World,” the Kirby creation debuted in a trilogy of related comics written and drawn by Kirby that were published in the very early 1970s: New Gods, Forever People and Mister Miracle. The New Gods came into existence after the world of the gods of classic mythology were destroyed during Ragnarok. The deities inhabit two planets: one is New Genesis, a lush paradise, and the other Apokolips, which sounds like Dante’s version of hell. War ensues.’

DuVernay already knows the comics and its character, as she’s previously said her favourite superhero is Big Barda, who is one of the New Gods. The film is apparently being planned as a standalone movie rather than something that will tie into DC’s other movies. It’s now known when we might see it in cinemas.

Lucas Hedges Playing Shia LaBeouf In Honey Boy, With LaBeouf Playing His Own Dad!

18th March 2018 By Tim Isaac

At this point it shouldn’t come as too much of a shock to find out Shia LaBeouf is doing something that sounds a bit odd – indeed the only real shock would be if he signed on to make another Transformers movie. With Honey Boy he’s getting a bit personal and meta, playing his own father, while Variety reports Lucas Hedges has signed on to play a younger version of LaBeouf.

It’s a ballsy move for Hedges as he’ll be part of a movie loosely based on LeBeouf’s own life, and follows a ‘child star attempting to mend his relationship with his law-breaking, alcohol-abusing father over the course of a decade’. The title of the film, Honey Boy, comes from Shia’s childhood nickname. It’s got to be intimidating though for Hedges to be playing the person he’s starring with, while you have to hope something so personal won’t get to Shia too much.

Alma Har’el is set to direct the movie. It’s not clear when it might shoot.

16th March 2018 By Tim Isaac

Here’s the synopsis: ‘An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time.
