Joseph Kosinski May Direct Tom Cruise In Top Gun 2, Which Shoots Next Year

24th May 2017 By Tim Isaac

Several years ago there was talk of a sequel to Top Gun, but that was put on hold when the movie’s director, Tony Scott, died back in 2012. However, now the movie is back on, with Tom Cruise revealing that he’s hoping to shoot the sequel next year, and Variety now adding that a director may already have been found.

The current frontrunner for the director’s chair is Tron: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski, who’s previously worked with Cruise on Oblivion, and whose latest firefighting movie, Granite Mountain, is due for release later this year. Tom has apparently been busy ensuring Top Gun 2 would be ready to shoot next year while he’s been filming Mission Impossible: 6, which included interviewing directors. It was apparently Kosinski’s vision for the movie that won out, although no offer has yet been made to the director.

Not too much is known about the plot, but the film ‘will be set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters and explore the end of an era of dogfighting which made the original film so exhilarating.’ It’s also believe Val Kilmer will return as Iceman, opposite Cruise’s Maverick.

Borg/McEnroe Teaser – Shia LaBeouf cannot be serious in the tennis biopic

22nd May 2017 By Tim Isaac

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the world of tennis was dominated by the rivalry between the calm, even-tempered Swede, Bjorn Borg, and the hot-tempered American, John McEnroe. Now their on-court battles are set to become a movie, although interestingly as it hails from Scandinavia, it’s more interested in Borg than McEnroe.

Even so, they’ve got a famous face to play the New Yorker, with Shia LaBeouf taking time off from slightly sophomoric performance art pieces to remember he’s also an actor. The focus though is believed to be Borg, played by Wallander actor, Sverrir Gudnason. Stellan Skargard also stars in the movie, which mainly looks at the 1980 Wimbledon final.

The first teaser for the movie has now arrived, which you can take a look at below. The film should be released later this year. [Read more…]

New Spider-Man Tom Holland Will Take The Lead In Uncharted Adaptation

22nd May 2017 By Tim Isaac

For over eight years Hollywood has been trying to adapt the hit videogame franchise Uncharted, convinced it might be able to break the curse of game-to-film tranfers. In that time it’s been through numerous writers, directors and actors, all of whom have had a go and then left.

They haven’t given up though, and the latest to come onboard to star is Tom Holland, the young British actor who took the world of Marvel by storm as Spider-man in Captain America: Civil War and who will soon be taking on the role again in Homecoming. Holland will play Nathan Drake in the Uncharted movie, which was originally being designed for an older actor.

Instead Sony (who are also behind Spider-man: Homecoming, of course) will now reconfigure the movie according to Deadline, to be a prequel to the treasure-hunting videogames, telling the story of ‘young thief Drake, and his first encounter with the professional rogue, Sullivan.’

Shawn Levy (Night At The Museum) is set to direct the movie, with Sony now looking for a new screenwriter to rework the script.

Tom Hardy On For Spider-Man Spin-off Venom, With Ruben Fleischer Set To Direct

20th May 2017 By Tim Isaac

Tom Hardy sure seems to like his comic book movies. After playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, he very nearly played Rick Flagg in Suicide Squad, until overruns on shooting The Revenant forced him to back out. Now he’s planning a return to the comic book world, as Variety reports that he’s set to star in Sony’s planned Spider-man spin-off, Venom.

The ‘alien symbiote that needs a human host to survive’ was introduced to movie audiences in Spider-man 3, but it left fans rather disappointed in how it was used and certainly didn’t leave viewers wanting more, despite how popular the character is in the Marvel comics. Not much has been revealed about the new film’s take on Venom. In the comics he’s generally been a supervillain, but it’s likely he’ll become more antihero for the movie.

Scott Rosenberg (“Jumanji”) and Jeff Pinkner (“The Dark Tower”) will write the script, with Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer recently coming on board to direct. The whole thing will have to come together quickly, as Sony wants to release the movie during October 2018.
