Action Man Is Getting A Movie With James Bobin Set To Direct

12th February 2018 By Tim Isaac

Kids who grew up in Britain from the late 60s through the 80s (and beyond after he was periodically reintroduced) will know the Action Man, which were literally the UK version of America’s GI Joe. Now the toy line is getting its own movie, with The Muppets and Alice Through The Looking Glass helmer James Bobin set to direct.

While Bobin came to Hollywood’s attention thanks to New Zealand hit series Flight Of The Conchords, he’s actually a Brit (who incidentally worked directed a lot of the early Ali G, helping launch Sacha Baron Cohen’s career), who would have grown up with Action Man.

The toy arrived in the UK in 1966 as a licensed version of Hasbro’s GI Joe line, but with a less specifically American bent, and over time became a range of adventurer type figures that went far betond the military. He found immense popularity before falling out of favour by the 80s. Since the 1990s he has undergone various changes and transformations, with greater or lesser success. It’s not know if the new film will follow one of these newer reinventions – such as the 1993 version which resulted in a cartoon series where he got enemies such as Dr X and Professor Gangrene – or if it will take him back to his earlier incarnations.

Venom Teaser Trailer – Tom Hardy is having symbiote troubles in the Spider-man spin-off

8th February 2018 By Tim Isaac

There are still plenty of people wondering quite how they’re going to make a standalone Venom movie work, especially as while the character may be very popular in the Spider-man universe, he’s normally thought of as a villain. While the first teaser for the movie doesn’t fully explain how Tom Hardy and the alien symbiote will work together, it hints at a Dr. Jeykll and Mr. Hyde vibe.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.’

That doesn’t exactly tell us a lot, so it’s worth taking a look at the teaser and the poster underneath it. The film itself, which also stars Michelle Williams and Riz Ahmed, is due in cinemas in October. [Read more…]

Deadpool 2 Trailer – Meet Josh Brolin’s Cable via Ryan Reynold’s wisecracking antihero

7th February 2018 By Tim Isaac

By know we should expect any promo for a Deadpool movie to break the fourth wall, and make fun of the whole idea of superhero movies. The new trailer for Deadpool 2 doesn’t disappoint on that score, even breaking into a toy version of typical action film.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After surviving a near fatal bovine attack, a disfigured cafeteria chef (Wade Wilson) struggles to fulfil his dream of becoming Mayberry’s hottest bartender while also learning to cope with his lost sense of taste. Searching to regain his spice for life, as well as a flux capacitor, Wade must battle ninjas, the yakuza, and a pack of sexually aggressive canines, as he journeys around the world to discover the importance of family, friendship, and flavour – finding a new taste for adventure and earning the coveted coffee mug title of World’s Best Lover.’

Yeah, I don’t think that’s what it’s really about either, so take a look below to catch up with Deadpool, and meet Josh Brolin’s futuristic Cable. The film is due in cinemas on May 16th. [Read more…]

Life Of The Party Trailer – Melissa McCarthy is going to college with her daughter

6th February 2018 By Tim Isaac

Synopsis: ‘When her husband suddenly dumps her, longtime dedicated housewife Deanna (McCarthy) turns regret into re-set by going back to college…landing in the same class and school as her daughter, who’s not entirely sold on the idea. Plunging headlong into the campus experience, the increasingly outspoken Deanna—now Dee Rock—embraces freedom, fun and frat boys on her own terms, finding her true self in a senior year no one ever expected.

‘The film also stars Gillian Jacobs (“Don’t Think Twice,” “Love,” “Community”), Maya Rudolph (“Bridesmaids,” “Sisters”), Julie Bowen (“Modern Family”), Matt Walsh (“Veep,” “Ghostbusters”), Molly Gordon (“Love the Coopers,” “Animal Kingdom”), with Stephen Root (“Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates”), and Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver (“Silver Linings Playbook,” “Animal Kingdom”), Jessie Ennis (“Better Call Saul”), Adria Arjona (“True Detective,” “Emerald City”), Debby Ryan (“Jessie”) and Jimmy O. Solo: A Star Wars Story Trailer – An iconic character gets younger in the form of Alden Ehrenreich

5th February 2018 By Tim Isaac

The planned Han Solo prequel has certainly had production issues, not least swapping directors partway through the shoot, with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller ejected, and Ron Howard brought in. However, issues during the making of Rogue One didn’t stop that being a good movie, so there’s still hope here. It is slightly difficult to get a proper feel for the film from this first trailer though.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future co-pilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.’

The movie is due out in May. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Mission: Impossible Fallout – Tom Cruise is back & he’s brought Henry Cavill along with him

5th February 2018 By Tim Isaac

A few years ago Tom Cruise was all set to leave the Mission: Impossible franchise, but then it became just about the only thing that guaranteed him a hit, so he stuck around. Now the latest instalment is on its way – Fallout.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The best intentions often come back to haunt you. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT finds Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team (Alec Baldwin, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames) along with some familiar allies (Rebecca Ferguson, Michelle Monaghan) in a race against time after a mission gone wrong. Henry Cavill, Angela Bassett, and Vanessa Kirby also join the dynamic cast with filmmaker Christopher McQuarrie returning to the helm.’

The movie is due out in July. Take a look at the first trailer below. [Read more…]
