Our Score

Life isn’t going as well as young David Packouz (Miles Teller) hoped. He’s stuck offering massages to middle-aged businessmen and wishing for something better. Then his old, rather wild, friend Efraim (Jonah Hill) returns to Miami from LA and offers David an opportunity.

Efraim is using a new government initiative to hopefully get rich. After a few scandals, President George W. Bush has opened up all government contracts to bids from private companies of any size, and that includes defence contracts. Efraim wants David to help him get the smaller arms contracts that the big companies are ignoring. That usually involved helping outfit the Iraqi or Afghani armies rather than the US military itself. War Dogs (Cinema Review)

19th August 2016 By George Elcombe

Running Time: 114 Minutes
UK Release Date: 26th August 2016
BBFC Certificate: 15

Our Score

Don’t let the marketing slogan ‘from the director of the Hangover trilogy’ put you off this film. Although it is very funny throughout, it’s a different breed altogether as director / co-writer Todd Phillips has created a tight, engrossing and entertaining film that is more in the vein of a gangster movie or The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).

War Dogs tells the story of David Packouz (Miles Teller), a 22-year-old drop out who massages elderly rich people to pay the rent. He gets reacquainted with his old childhood friend Efraim Diveroli (Jonah Hill) who makes his money supplying weapons for US government contracts, via an online marketplace set up by the Pentagon. Miles is taken under his wing and we see the rise of their business empire. They win a $300 million contract to arm US allies in Afghanistan in 2007, but face a few troublesome business trips abroad and the inevitable turbulence as their friendship is put to the test. New Posters: Wonder Woman, Kong: Skull Island, LEGO Batman Movie, Fantastic Beasts & More

23rd July 2016 By Tim Isaac

kong-skull-island-poster-slideWith Comic-Con kicking off in Sand Diego, movie studios have been lining up to release new posters for their upcoming movies. That includes Wonder Woman, Kong: Skull Island, The LEGO Batman Movie, Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them, War Dogs and King Arthur.

All of those movies will be hoping to excite fanboys at the Californian event, and hopefully many of them will be releasing some trailer/footage for the rest of us too. First up though it’s the posters.

We’ve also posted the first official image from Kong: Skull Island, showing Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson, alongside evidence that they’re going to be dealing with some ridiculously large apes. However, like earlier promos, Kong bones suggest this will deal with a species in decline, leaving King Kong as the last of his kind.

Take a look at the posters and pic below. [Read more…]
