Our Score

Life isn’t going as well as young David Packouz (Miles Teller) hoped. He’s stuck offering massages to middle-aged businessmen and wishing for something better. Then his old, rather wild, friend Efraim (Jonah Hill) returns to Miami from LA and offers David an opportunity.

Efraim is using a new government initiative to hopefully get rich. After a few scandals, President George W. Bush has opened up all government contracts to bids from private companies of any size, and that includes defence contracts. Efraim wants David to help him get the smaller arms contracts that the big companies are ignoring. That usually involved helping outfit the Iraqi or Afghani armies rather than the US military itself. War Dogs (Cinema Review)

19th August 2016 By George Elcombe

war-dogs-slideStarring: Jonah Hill, Miles Teller
Directed By: Todd Phillips
Running Time: 114 Minutes
UK Release Date: 26th August 2016
BBFC Certificate: 15

Our Score

Don’t let the marketing slogan ‘from the director of the Hangover trilogy’ put you off this film. Although it is very funny throughout, it’s a different breed altogether as director / co-writer Todd Phillips has created a tight, engrossing and entertaining film that is more in the vein of a gangster movie or The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).

War Dogs tells the story of David Packouz (Miles Teller), a 22-year-old drop out who massages elderly rich people to pay the rent. He gets reacquainted with his old childhood friend Efraim Diveroli (Jonah Hill) who makes his money supplying weapons for US government contracts, via an online marketplace set up by the Pentagon. Miles is taken under his wing and we see the rise of their business empire. They win a $300 million contract to arm US allies in Afghanistan in 2007, but face a few troublesome business trips abroad and the inevitable turbulence as their friendship is put to the test. War Dogs Trailer – Jonah Hill & Miles Teller make a deal to arm the Afghan government

5th July 2016 By Tim Isaac

war-dogs-slideJonah Hill & Miles Teller aren’t the first people you’d think of as military contractors, and neither are the characters they play in War Dogs. The first trailer for the based-on-a-true-story movie has now arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Based on a true story, “War Dogs” follows two friends in their early 20s (Hill and Teller) living in Miami during the first Iraq War who exploit a little-known government initiative that allows small businesses to bid on U.S. Military contracts. Starting small, they begin raking in big money and are living the high life. But the pair gets in over their heads when they land a 300 million dollar deal to arm the Afghan Military—a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people, not the least of which turns out to be the U.S. Government.’
