Mute Trailer – Duncan Jones heads to a futuristic Berlin with Alexander Skarsgard & Paul Rudd

31st January 2018 By Tim Isaac

Before he went off to make Warcraft: The Beginning, Duncan Jones was working on Mute. Now we’re finally getting that film, which is heading to Netflix in a few weeks time.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Berlin, the future, but close enough to feel familiar: In this loud, often brutal city, Leo (Alexander Skarsgård) – unable to speak from a childhood accident – searches for his missing girlfriend, the love of his life, his salvation, through dark streets, frenzied plazas, and the full spectrum of the cities shadow-dwellers. As he seeks answers, Leo finds himself mixed up with Cactus Bill (Paul Rudd) and Duck (Justin Theroux), a pair of irreverent US army surgeons on a mission all their own. This soulful sci-fi journey from filmmaker Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code, Warcraft) imagines a world of strange currencies in which echoes of love and humanity are still worth listening to.

‘Mute is directed by Duncan Jones and written by Jones and Michael Robert Johnson. The film is produced by Stuart Fenegan. Charles J.D. Schissel and Trevor Beattie are executive producers. Mute will be released on Netflix, February 23, 2018.’

First Look At Paul Rudd & Alexander Skarsgard In Duncan Jones’ Mute

8th January 2017 By Tim Isaac

Before he went off to make the mega-budget Warcraft: The Beginning, Source Code and Moon director Duncan Jones was working on Mute. Now he’s gone back to that film, which will be eschewing largely cinemas, due to a very lucrative deal with Netflix.

Now the first pictures from the film have arrived.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Set in the near-future, Leo (Alexander Skarsgård) is a bartender living in the pulsing city of Berlin. Because of a childhood accident, Leo lost the ability to speak and the only good thing in his life is his beautiful girlfriend Naadirah (Seyneb Saleh). When she vanishes without a trace, Leo’s search for her takes him deep into the city’s seedy underbelly. A pair of wisecracking American surgeons (Paul Rudd and Justin Theroux) are the only recurring clue and Leo is forced to take on this teeming underworld in order to find his love.

‘The Netflix original film is directed by Duncan Jones and written by Jones and Michael Robert Johnson. Stuart Fenegan serves as producer and Charles J.D. Schissel and Trevor Beattie serve as executive producers. The film will launch in all territories where Netflix is available in 2017.’

No exact release date has been revealed, but it’ll be out later this year. [Read more…]

Our Score

In the last few years, Hollywood has become increasingly obsessed with the fast-growing Chinese market. Warcraft: The Beginning is ample evidence as to why that is. The movie was a massive flop in the US, grossing less than $50 million there on a $160 million budget. However, it made over $220 million in China, meaning that instead of being one of the biggest box office disasters ever, they’re now thinking of making a sequel.

The disparity between the US and China reception of this movie is a bit difficult to explain. While American audiences certainly had a lot of choice this summer, it’s a surprise a few more didn’t choose this film, as it’s quite fun. [Read more…]

New Warcraft: The Beginning Trailer – Travis Fimmel & Ben Foster take us into a fantasy world

29th March 2016 By Tim Isaac

warcraft the beginning slide2They’ve sure taken a long time to bring us Warcraft: The Beginning. The film shot almost two years ago, but as this trailer shows, the reason for that is that it needed an awful lot of post-production and special effects work to create a convincing fantasy world, which wouldn’t seeming lacking in comparison the Peter Jackson’s take on Middle Earth.

Here’s the snyopsis: ‘The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another.  As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction.  From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.

‘So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.

‘Directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) and written by Charles Leavitt and Jones, the film starring Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Rob Kazinsky and Daniel Wu is a Legendary Pictures, Blizzard Entertainment and Atlas Entertainment production.’

The movie will be in cinemas on May 30th. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Warcraft: The Beginning Trailer – Into the fantasy world with Travis Fimmel & Ben Foster

7th November 2015 By Tim Isaac

warcraft-poster1-slideFrom the evidence of this trailer, Warcraft: The Beginning certainly looks like it’s going after Middle Earth’s fantasy crown. It definitely seems inspired by Peter Jackson’s Tokien movies while also doing a good job of feeling like it’s set in the world of the Warcraft computer game.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another.
