Atomic Blonde Trailer – Charlize Theron turns bisexual badass at the end of the Cold War

11th March 2017 By Tim Isaac

Every so often, Charlize Theron wants to kick ass, or that’s how it seems. Whether it’s Aeon Flux, Fury Road or now Atomic Blonde, she is good at taking names and looking badass doing it. In Atomic Blonde. based on Antony Johnston’s graphic novel The Coldest Winter, that involves her beating up a lot of men, and getting sexy with a female French operative.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘The crown jewel of Her Majesty’s Secret Intelligence Service, Agent Lorraine Broughton (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) is equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on her impossible mission. Sent alone into Berlin to deliver a priceless dossier out of the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through the deadliest game of spies.

‘A blistering blend of sleek action, gritty sexuality and dazzling style, Atomic Blonde is directed by David Leitch (John Wick, upcoming Deadpool 2). Also starring John Goodman, Til Schweiger, Eddie Marsan, Sofia Boutella and Toby Jones, the film is based on the Oni Press graphic novel “The Coldest City,” by Antony Johnston & illustrator Sam Hart. Kurt Johnstad (300) wrote the screenplay.’

The film is due out in August. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

New Split Trailer – James McAvoy gets multiple personalities in M. Night Shyamalan’s latest

27th October 2016 By Tim Isaac

split-slideM. Night Shyamalan’s The Visit may not have been a great movie, but it was made on a low budget and made a decent profit. As a result Shyamalan has teamed up with producer Jason Blum again for his latest thriller, Split.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘While the mental divisions of those with dissociative identity disorder have long fascinated and eluded science, it is believed that some can also manifest unique physical attributes for each personality, a cognitive and physiological prism within a single being.

‘Though Kevin (James McAvoy) has evidenced 23 personalities to his trusted psychiatrist, Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley), there remains one still submerged who is set to materialize and dominate all the others. Compelled to abduct three teenage girls led by the willful, observant Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy, The Witch), Kevin reaches a war for survival among all of those contained within him—as well as everyone around him—as the walls between his compartments shatter apart.’

X-Men: Apocalypse (Cinema Review)

19th May 2016 By George Elcombe

x-men-apocalypse-review-slideStarring: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Oscar Isaac
Directed By: Bryan Singer
Running Time: 142 Minutes
BBFC Certificate: 12A
UK Release Date: 20th May 2016

Our Score

I’ve been a big fan of the X-Men ever since watching the Saturday morning cartoons many years ago, and I have been waiting for the films to introduce Apocalypse and do justice to one of his storylines. X-Men (2000) is seen as the birth of the modern comic book movie and still holds up today as a great film. Seven franchise entries later (excluding Deadpool (2016)) and it’s no surprise that the films have varied in quality.

X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014) was great as it combined the worlds of the original trilogy and the X-Men: First Class (2011), with older and younger actors portraying different versions of their characters and a time traveling plot with peril for both mutants and humans. But it did lose me with the plastic sentinels with plastic bullets, and presumably plastic processors and wires. Also the ending didn’t make much sense, until you realised that it combined two separate timelines and ended up with four. [Read more…]

Final X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer – Can a mutant destroy the entire world?

25th April 2016 By Tim Isaac

x-men-apocalypse-slideIn just a few weeks the mutants are returning and facing the awesome power of Apocalypse – an ancient mutant who is so powerful he has been worshipped as a god, and who isn’t impressed with the modern world. The final trailer is here to suggest this is going to be pretty epic.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.’
