Marshall Trailer – Chadwick Boseman plays the first African-American US Supreme Court justice

3rd September 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Chadwick Boseman continues his run a playing African-American luminaries as after being Jackie Robinson in 42 and James Brown in Get On Up, he is Thurgood Marshall in this autumn’s Marshall. Although that name probably isn’t that well known outside the US, he’s extremely well-known in America, not least for his involvement in the landmark school desegregation case, Brown v. Board of Education, as well as becoming the first African-American US Supreme Court justice.

However, the movie, which also stars Sterling K. Brown, Kate Hudson, Josh Gad, Dan Stevens and James Cromwell, focuses on an earlier moment in Marshall’s life.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘MARSHALL, based on the early career of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, follows the young lawyer (Chadwick Boseman) to conservative Connecticut to defend a black chauffeur (Sterling K. Brown) against his wealthy white socialite employer (Kate Hudson) in a sexual assault and attempted murder trial. In need of a high-profile victory but muzzled by a segregationist court, Marshall is partnered with young Jewish lawyer Samuel Friedman (Josh Gad) who has never tried a case. They struggle against a hostile storm of fear and prejudice, driven to discover the truth in a sensationalized trial that helped lay the groundwork for the Civil Rights Movement.’

Beauty & The Beast (IMAX Review) – Is there something there that wasn’t there before?

17th March 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Kevin Kline
Directed By: Bill Condon
Running Time: 129 mins
BBFC Certificate: PG
UK Release Date: March 17th 2017

Our Score

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. That seems to have been the watchword with Beauty & The Beast. While there has been some tinkering around the edges of the 1991 animated classic to give everyone a bit more of a backstory, and to slightly soften some of the creepier Stockholm Syndrome elements, largely this live-action version is incredibly faithful. That goes as far as parts of the film being pretty much a shot-for-shot remake.

Inevitably, this will have some crying foul, seeing this as a cynical attempt by Disney to churn out another money-grabbing live-action take on one of their best films. Well, the fact is – yes, it is. But do you know what? I don’t care. [Read more…]

Colossal Trailer – Anne Hathaway discovers she’s mentally linked to a monster attack

18th February 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

When Colossal debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival, it got a bit of a mixed reaction, partially because it seemed some critics didn’t quite know what to make of it. Now a trailer has arrived, which suggests that perhaps they can’t be blamed for being a little perplexed, as it looks like a strange one.

Anne Hathaway plays Gloria, an ordinary woman who, after losing her job and her fiancé (Dan Stevens), decides to leave her life in New York to move back to her hometown. But when news reports surface that a giant lizard is destroying Seoul, Gloria comes to realise that she is connected to these far-off events via the power of her mind. In order to prevent further destruction, Gloria needs to determine why her seemingly insignificant existence has such a colossal effect on the fate of the world.

And as this trailer shows, that’s when it gets really bizarre.

Jason Sudeikis also stars, with Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes) directing. Take a look below. [Read more…]

The Ticket Trailer – Dan Stevens discovers getting his sight back doesn’t solve all his problems

14th February 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Next month former Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens is getting covered in CGI as the Beast in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast, but those hoping to actually be able to see his face a bit more will have to wait for The Ticket. In that movie he’s into parable territory as a blind man who regains his sight, but instead becomes blind to what was really good about his life.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘After James (Dan Stevens), a blind man, inexplicably regains his vision, he becomes possessed by a drive to make a better life for himself. However, his new improvements-a nicer home, a higher paying job, tailored suits, luxury car-leave little room for the people who were part of his old, simpler life: his plain wife (Malin Åkerman) and close friend Bob (Oliver Platt). As his relationships buckle under the strain of his snowballing ambition, it becomes uncertain if James can ever return from darkness.’

The movie will be out in the US in April, although no UK date is currently set. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

New Beauty & The Beast Trailer – The live-action take on a tale as old as time gets magical

31st January 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

It’s looking increasingly clear that Disney has a huge hit on its hands with its live-action version of Beauty and the Beast – assuming the film is as good as it looks, of course. The final trailer for the movie has now been released, which once more shows us plenty of classic moments from the 1991 animated movie recreated with Emma Watson as Belle and a CG-covered Dan Stevens as the Beast.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscar® winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Golden Globe® nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster; six-time Tony Award® winner Audra McDonald as Madame Garderobe, the wardrobe; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and two-time Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.

‘Directed by Oscar® winner Bill Condon from a screenplay by TBD based on the 1991 animated film, the film is produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman with eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards® (Best Original Score and Best Song) for the 1991 animated film, providing the score, which will include new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as several new songs written by Menken and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice.’

The film will in in cinemas in March. [Read more…]
