Fourth Rebooted Star Trek Film Coming With Chris Hemsworth Returning

18th July 2016 By Tim Isaac

Chris-HemsworthBack in 2009 nobody really knew what a Chris Hemsworth was. His biggest role was a couple hundred episodes of Aussie soap opera Home & Away, before he scored a tiny part in the rebooted Star Trek, playing Captain Kirk’s dad, George, who didn’t last more than the first few minutes before dying. However, it turns out that won’t be the last we’ll see of his in the renewed franchise.

He may have gone onto to the superpowered heights of being Thor, but Paramount has announced that even though Star Trek Beyond hasn’t been released yet, they’re already working on the next film and that it will bring back Hemsworth.

What we don’t know is how George Kirk will return, although with Star Trek there are plenty of options. He might be brought into the future or the crew could end up back in the past. Alternatively, it may turn out he didn’t die after all. We do know the two Kirk’s will meet, with George described as, ‘a man he never had a chance to meet, but whose legacy has haunted him since the day he was born.’

Chris Pine is already confirmed to return as Jame Kirk, and the likes Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and Simon Pegg are expected to be back too. It’s not known how the film will deal with the tragic death of Anton Yelchin, and whether it means the character of Chekov will be retired.

Another New Star Trek Beyond Trailer Arrives

27th June 2016 By Tim Isaac

star-trek-beyond-slideThe rebooted Star Trek has had plenty of success at the cinema, but one thing it’s been lacking is a five-year mission to seek out strange new worlds. However, now it seems it’s getting one, although as you would expect, as the crew of the USS Enterprise head off to strange new worlds, things don’t go smoothly.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘”Star Trek Beyond,” the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew.  In “Beyond,” the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.’

The film will be in UK cinemas on July 22nd. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

New Star Trek Beyond Trailer – Chris Pine & co. head for strange new worlds & into action

21st May 2016 By Tim Isaac

Star-Trek-Beyond-Teaser-posterThe first trailer for Star Trek Beyond came in for quite a bit of criticism, not least for being very action-heavy and not Star Trek-y enough for some tastes. However, with the second trailer it seems Paramount feels the best approach is to double down on the action and suggestions of lots of epic special-effects. That said, they have added a few more character moments and suggestions this fits into a larger sci-fi universe.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“Star Trek Beyond,” the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. The movie will be in cinemas July 22nd. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Hell or High Water Trailer – Ben Foster & Chris Pine go bank robbing

12th May 2016 By Tim Isaac

hell-or-high-water-trailer-slideDue to premiere soon at Cannes, the first trailer for Hell or High Water has now arrived, which you can take a look at below. The movie stars Chris Pine and Ben Foster, but they’re certainly not in pretty-boy mode.

The film, based on Taylor Sheridan’s black-listed script, follows a divorced dad and his ex-con brother resort to a desperate scheme in order to save their family’s farm in West Texas. As the trailer shows, that involves a lot of crime and bank robbing, but also plenty of bonding between the brother – plus Jeff Bridges in sheriff mode, which is never a bad thing.

Following its Un Certain Regard Canned debut, it’s heading for release in the US in August. Watch the trailer below. [Read more…]

The Finest Hours (Cinema Review)

18th February 2016 By George Elcombe

finest-hours-slideStarring: Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, Eric Bana
Directed By: Craig Gillespie
Running Time: 117 Minutes
UK Release Date: 19th February 2016
BBFC Certificate: 12A

Our Score

Disney presents ‘The Finest Hours’, which based on the true…. Hang on, Disney presents? Disney didn’t present the new Star Wars movie or any of the Marvel Cinematic Universe films. I guess it wants to maintain its family friendly image when dealing with films that don’t focus on action or violence. Although in the above films they do mostly paint a binary picture of good vs evil, where good will always win with a fist, a blaster or a lightsabre.

Back on track, The Finest Hours is based on the remarkable true story of an oil tanker that is ripped in two by a massive storm off the coast of Chatham Massachusetts in February 1952.  30 sailors were trapped in the slowly sinking stern of the ship, and 4 brave coastguards in a small boat are sent on a mission to rescue them against all odds. Star Trek Beyond Trailer – Chris Pine & co. return and are finally boldy going to strange new world

14th December 2015 By Tim Isaac

star-trek-beyond-trailer-slide1Although the first two rebooted Star Trek movies were a lot of fun, one thing they lacked was boldly going to explore strange new worlds and new civilisations. However, with Star Trek Beyond it’s been suggest the Enterprise will finally be embarking on their five year mission.

However, while JJ Abrams may not be directing (he is producing though), it appears they’re sticking with the secrecy that surrounded the earlier movie but telling us nothing about the plot and producing a first trailer which is pretty cool, but doesn’t tell us much about the plot.

You won’t be surprised to hear though that aliens are involved, one of them played by Idris Elba.

It also appears that new director Justin Lin is bringing a nicely retro feel, with the whole thing being oddly reminiscent of the 60s TV show, which makes sense if its taking place at the same time, even if it’s an alternate timeline. Of course it’s all a lot more high tech, but it’s still got a nice throwback feeling. You can take a look at the trailer below, and look forward to the film arriving in cinemas next July.
