Tim Burton is arguably one of the most visceral and imaginative filmmakers around, whose trademark obsession with all things morbid and weird has made him an iconic director. It’s just a shame that most of his recent work hasn’t hit the heights set by Beetlejuice (1988) or Edward Scissorhands (1990), and the last film of his that I really enjoyed was Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street back in 2007.

His style isn’t for all and his Planet of the Apes (2001) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) remakes are best forgotten. But I was curious to see this latest film to see if it captured his trademark macabre magic, or was yet another movie where it appears he was just a director for hire. [Read more…]

New Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children Trailer – Tim Burton takes us into a magical time loop

miss-peregrine-character-poster1-slide From the look of this trailer, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children may see Tim Burton back in proper Tim Burton-y form, bringing a touch of gothic to a strange tale. It certainly looks like it might be pretty entertaining.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From visionary director Tim Burton, and based upon the best-selling novel, comes an unforgettable motion picture experience. When his beloved grandfather leaves Jake clues to a mystery that spans different worlds and times, he finds a magical place known as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. But the mystery and danger deepen as he gets to know the residents and learns about their special powers…and their powerful enemies. Ultimately, Jake discovers that only his own special “peculiarity” can save his new friends.

miss-peregrine Tim Burton returns this year with Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’s, magical mystery, which is set in a house that is is stuck in a time loop, where it’s always September 3, 1940, with the clock constantly resetting just before it gets bombed by the Germans.
