Arrietty Trailer – Studio Ghibli takes on The Borrowers

5th July 2011 By Tim Isaac

Among the animation cognoscenti, any Studio Ghibli release is something to get excited about, and while Arrietty may not be directed by Hayao Miyazaki, it’s still looks like it’s shot through with the studio’s trademark style. It also continues Ghibli’s interest in Britain and the work of UK authors, as following Howl’s Moving Castle (based on a book Diana Wynne Jones), Arrietty was inspired by Mary Norton’s classic, The Borrowers. Tiny 14 year old Arrietty lives under the floorboards of an old house with her father and mother. Their peaceful life is dramatically changed when the ever curious Arrietty accidentally allows herself to be seen by Sho, a sickly but well-intentioned (and full-sized) 12 year old boy. The fledgling friendship between the two lonely children causes Haru the housekeeper to become aware of the borrowers’ existence. The family are forced to choose between staying in their well-established home or leaving for the uncertainty of the great outdoors. The movie will reach UK cinemas of July 19th.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy Teaser Trailer – A great British cast takes on John le Carre

1st July 2011 By Tim Isaac

With a cast including Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch and Ciaran Hinds, there can be no doubting the quality of the ensemble for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, the English-language debut of Let The Right One In director Tomas Alfredson. Based on John le Carre’s classic novel (famous brought to TV with Alec Guinness starring),  about retired British intelligence officer George Smiley (who is often described as being a sort of quiet, anti-James Bond figure, here played by Oldman), who is asked to return to his old agency to discover which of his former colleagues is a Russian spy. The film is set for release on September 26th.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol Trailer Arrives – The English version is now online, with Cruise in action again

29th June 2011 By Tim Isaac

A few days ago, a bootleg version of the French Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol trailer leaked onto the net, but if you want to know what everyone was actually talking about, the English edition is now online. Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt, although he’s got a few issues, as the Kremlin has been blown up and the US government has initiated ‘Ghost Protocol’, which means they’ve disavowed the whole of Hunt’s organisation, IMF. Click below to take a look, and see that while it was suggested Jeremy Renner would be sharing the limelight with Tom, this is still being very much sold as a Cruise movie. It’s in cinemas December 26th.

War Horse Teaser Trailer – First look at Spielberg’s take on the Michael Morpurgo book

29th June 2011 By Tim Isaac

It sure look like Spielberg is going for another Oscar. The first teaser trailer for War Horse is here, Spielberg’s take on the wonderful Michael Morpurgo book, which recently became a massively successful play both at the National Theatre and on Broadway. Although it appears it’ll be a slightly rose-tinted look at the First World War, it does look like it’ll be pretty epic, and the story is so strong it should be well worth a watch when it arrives in UK cinemas on January 13th.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘From director Steven Spielberg comes “War Horse,” an epic adventure for audiences of all ages. Set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War, “War Horse” begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him. When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets—British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter—before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land.

The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse—an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure. “War Horse” is one of the great stories of friendship and war— a successful book, it was turned into a hugely successful international theatrical hit that is arriving on Broadway next year. It now comes to screen in an epic adaptation by one of the great directors in film history.’ Clicke below to watch the trailer.

11-11-11 Trailer – November 11th will be a very bad day according to Darren Lynn Bousman

29th June 2011 By Tim Isaac

It’s not often that a film comes along that was inspired by a date, but it was the fact that the 11th of November this year – 11-11-11 – falls on a Friday (the day films come out) that served as the initial impetus for Darren Lynn Bousman’s (Saw sequels, Repo) upcoming creepy flick. The film suggests there’s an 11-11 phenomenon, where strange things happen when two or more elevens get together, so that at 11:11 on the 11th day of the 11th month of 2011, the combination is powerful enough that an entity from another world can attempt to enter the earthly realm through Heaven’s 11th gate! If you can’t guess the film’s release date, you’re a moron, but click below for the new trailer.

New Three Musketeers Trailer Swashbuckles In – Orlando Bloom shows off his odd facial hair

29th June 2011 By Tim Isaac

Resident Evil and Death Race’s Paul WS Anderson is a bad director, but as bad directors go, he’s a pretty good one, as while the lasting impression of most of his movies is that they’re rubbish, when you’re watching them, they’re oddly fun. Hopefully the same will be true of The Three Musketeers 3D, which will be swinging into cinemas this October. A new trailer has arrived, showing off the movie period action, as the hot-headed young D’Artagnan, along with three former legendary but now down on their luck Musketeers, unite to try and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war. Logan Lerman, Milla Jovovich, Christoph Waltz, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Matthew MacFadyen and Orlando Bloom star, but click below for the latest trailer.
