Texas Killing Fields Trailer – Sam Worthington investigates a sadistic serial killer

19th August 2011 By Tim Isaac

A couple of weeks ago, an international trailer for Texas Killing Fields arrived on line, but as it wasn’t in English, it gave us a chance to see the movie, even if we couldn’t really tell what was going on. Now an English-language version has arrived, which suggests this is going to be a tough, gritty and uncompromising flick. Michael Mann’s daughter, Ani Canaan Mann, directs the film, which is based on a series of real life killings. The thriller follows a local homicide detective (Sam Worthington) in a small Texas town and his partner, a transplanted cop from New York City (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), as they track a sadistic serial killer dumping his victims’ mutilated bodies in a nearby marsh locals call “The Killing Fields”. The killer changes the game and begins hunting the detectives, teasing them with possible clues at the crime scenes while always remaining one step ahead. When a familiar local girl, Anne (Chloe Moretz), goes missing, the detectives find themselves in a race against time to find the killer and save her life. Take a look below for the trailer.

Machine Gun Preacher Trailer – Gerard Butler goes from fighting bikers to fighting for child soldiers’ lives

19th August 2011 By Tim Isaac

A movie with a title like Machine Gun Preacher could be just about anything, from a post apocalytic sci-fi flick to a movie about a priest who moonlight as a gun-runner. However the film is actually an action-drama, based on a true story about the terrible reality of child soldiers. When ex-biker-gang member Sam Childers (Butler) makes the life-changing decision to go to East Africa to help repair homes destroyed by civil war, he is outraged by the unspeakable horrors faced by the region’s vulnerable populace, especially the children. Ignoring the warnings of more experienced aide workers, Sam breaks ground for an orphanage where it’s most needed—in the middle of territory controlled by the brutal Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), a renegade militia that forces youngsters to become soldiers before they even reach their teens. Determined to save as many as possible, he leads armed missions deep into enemy territory to retrieve kidnapped children, restoring peace to their lives – and eventually his own. The film will be out in the UK on November 18th, but click below for the trailer.

Trespass Trailer – Kidman & Cage come under attack in their own home

18th August 2011 By Tim Isaac

Nicole Kidman missed out on being under attack in her own home in Panic Room, when she broke a bone and had to be replaced by Jodie Foster before shooting began. Now she’s making up for it with Trespass, which stars Kidman and Nic Cage as a married couple whose home is invaded by a bunch of balaclava wearing bad guys, led by Cam Gigandet. They want what’s in a rather snazzy looking safe, but Cage isn’t keen to give it. After a few years in the wilderness, Joel Schumacher (Phone Booth, 8mm) is back in the mainstream fold to direct, although whether it will end his run of mediocrity is yet to be seen (several reports suggest it won’t, as the movie is said to have tested poorly and needed reshoots to tweak numerous issues). Take a look below for the trailer. There’s no UK release set at the moment, but it reaches American shores on October 20th.

The Woman In Black Trailer – Daniel Radcliffe gets freaked out in the upcoming ghostly tale

18th August 2011 By Tim Isaac

Despite the fact he shot it last year, it’s still a while until Daniel Radcliffe’s first post-Potter filmic venture, The Woman In Black, arrives in cinemas on February 10th, 2012. However to get us revved up, a new trailer is here, focussing on the creepy aspects of theis ghostly tale. Here’s the official synopsis: ‘Based on the classic ghost story, THE WOMAN IN BLACK tells the tale of Arthur Kipps (Daniel Radcliffe), a lawyer who is forced to leave his young son and travel to a remote village to attend to the affairs of the recently deceased owner of Eel Marsh House.

‘Working alone in the old mansion, Kipps begins to uncover the town’s tragic and tortured secrets and his fears escalate when he discovers that local children have been disappearing under mysterious circumstances. When those closest to him become threatened by the vengeful woman in black, Kipps must find a way to break the cycle of terror.

THE WOMAN IN BLACK also stars Ciaran Hinds (TINKER, TAILOR, SOLDIER, SPY) and Janet McTeer (TUMBLEWEEDS), was adapted from Susan Hill’s novel for the screen by Jane Goldman (KICK ASS) and directed by James Watkins (EDEN LAKE).’

New Red Tails Trailer and Poster – Another look at George Lucas’ movie about the Tuskegee airmen

18th August 2011 By Tim Isaac

It’s taken a long time for the George Lucas produced Red Tails to make it from the an idea to the cinemas. He’s been working on it for two decades, and even though shooting began in 2009, it won’t actually reach cinemas until early 2012. Set during 1944, the war in Europe continues to take its toll on Allied forces, and the Pentagon brass has no recourse but to consider unorthodox options – including the untried and untested African-American pilots of the experimental Tuskegee training program. Just as the young Tuskegee men are on the brink of being shut down and shipped back home, they are given the ultimate chance to show their courage. Against all the odds, with something to prove and everything to lose, these intrepid young airmen take to the skies to fight for their country – and the fate of the free world. It’s a famous tale and has taken on legendary proportions in African-American history. Lucas therefore needs to get it right, and while it certainly looks like the aerial sequences will be spectacular, it’s yet to be seen whether the rest of the movie works.

Oddly while the story is famed for the young African-American men who fought valiantly for their country at a time when they lacked equal rights with white people, the trailer and poster tend to concentrate on the action, making it look almost like a 1940s action-adventure serial. There were rumours Lucas wasn’t pleased with Anthony Hemingway’s direction, so perhaps he’s trying to make up for any percieved weaknesses by suggesting it’ll be an aerial action spectacular. We’ll have to wait and see if that’s true when the movie, starring Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., David Oyelowo and Ne-Yo, arrives in cinemas.

New Immortals Trailer – Fresh look at Tarsem’s Greek mythology epic

17th August 2011 By Tim Isaac

If you’ve been starved of hyper-stylised Greek mythology since 300, then Immortals is the movie for you. Tarsem (The Cell, The Fall) always creates movies that look incredible, and it seems this will be no different. The movie will also give us a chance to see Henry Cavill in a lead role before he take on Superman in Man Of Steel. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares.

‘Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes. Rallying a band of fellow outsiders–including visionary priestess Phaedra (Freida Pinto) and cunning slave Stavros (Stephen Dorff) — one hero will lead the uprising, or watch his homeland fall into ruin and his Gods vanish into legend.’ It’s in cinemas on November 11th.
