I’ve always found Nick Broomfield a slightly annoying figure in his documentaries, as he has a tendency to get in the way of the subject. But while his films do tend to be too much about him, he does have a knack surrounding the Broomfield show with interesting ideas. The trailer for Sarah Palin – You Betcha! tries to sell the film as being Michael Moore-ish, with Broomfield on the road attempting to find the real Sarah Pain, and discovering quite what a divisive figure she is, utterly beloved by some, but one step from the devil for others. The Muppets: The Pig With The Froggy Tattoo Trailer – Kermit and co’s great parodies return
After great parody trailer of The Hangover Part 2 and a generic rom-com, there’s been a lull in the immensely fun pisstake promos from The Muppets. However now a new one has emerged, this time aping the teaser trailer for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It’s a lot of fun, with the OTT stylishness at wonderful odds with the puppety-ness of the whole thing. Click below to take a look. Sadly though, while this trailer promises the movie at Thanksgiving, it doesn’t reach the UK until February, when we’ll get to see Amy Adams and Jason Segal teaming up with Kermit and his gang to try and save the famed Muppet Theatre from a greedy oil tycoon.
New 13 Trailer – Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke and Ray Winstone play Russian Roulette
While the Russian Roulette scenes in The Deer Hunter are justly famous, the reason they’re known is because they’re so difficult to watch. So do we really want a movie that’s all about Russian Roulette? Well someone thinks we do, as 13 is on its way (actually a remake of the French film 13 Tzameti, so perhaps people do luck movies about people possibly shooting one another in a tense game) and a new trailer has just been released. To be honest it all looks slightly unpleasant, but it has an impressive cast including Alexander Skarsgard, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Sam Riley, Emanuelle Chriqui, Ray Winstone, Michael Shannon, 50 Cent and Natasha Lynonne. The film follows a naive young man (Riley) who assumes a dead person’s identity and finds himself embroiled in an underground world of power, violence, and chance where men gamble behind closed doors on the lives of other men. Take a look below for the trailer. No UK release date is currently set.
Premium Rush Trailer – Joseph Gordon-Levitt discovers everyone wants his package in the new action-thriller
Bike messengers in big cities are an insane subspecies of human being seemingly intent on trying to kill themselves and deliver packages at the same time. Now they’ve got their own movie, with Joseph Gordon Levitt playing a messenger who picks up a mysterious package that results in him getting chased across New York by various shady parties, including an angry and possibly corrupt cop played by Michael Shannon. Written and directed by David Koepp (best known as the writer of the likes of Jurassic Park), the film’s due to hit UK cinemas on February 17th, 2012.
Barrymore Trailer – Christopher Plummer takes on John Barrymore & Richard III
Here’s an intriguing one. Christopher Plummer stars in an adpatation of William Luce’s play about the great actor John Barrymore (Drew Barrymore’s granddad). What makes it all the more interesting is that it concentrates on Barrymore rehearsing for a 1942 revival of his 1920 turn on Broadway as Richard III, which is considered one of the greatest Shakespearean performances of all time. However by 1942 he was an old man who’s mind was going, and indeed was only a few months from death. Luce’s 1997 play was first staged as a one-man-show starring Plummer, who himself had great succes as Richard III for the RSC (in 1961)and others. Plummer won a Tony for the stage version of Barrymore, and now brings it to film, with the action largely kept to just him on a stage, as it was on Broadway. The film is premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival, and while it many never find mainstream success, it does look rather fascinating, with art and life intersecting as two trult great actors come together.
We Bought A Zoo Trailer – Matt Damon decides he needs a wildlife park
I’m thinking about starting a campaign against We Bought A Zoo. As a Devon boy, born and bred, it seems a shame that a story about the rehabilitation of a Devonshire wildlife park (Dartmoor Zoo) has been taken by Hollywood and transported to America. After all, wouldn’t it be more fun if you had Scarlet Johansson playing a zookeeper with a broad westcountry accent? But hey ho, the movie’s been made, it is indeed Americanised, and now Matt Damon’s character decides to purchase the rundown Rosemoor Wildlife Park and do it up. Trying to get over the death of his wife, Damon and his two kids – along with a dedicated staff (including Johansson) – attempt to return the zoo to its former glory. The first trailer is now here, so click below to watch it, and mourn the lack of Devon-ness. The film reaches cinemas on December 23rd.
