I’m thinking about starting a campaign against We Bought A Zoo. As a Devon boy, born and bred, it seems a shame that a story about the rehabilitation of a Devonshire wildlife park (Dartmoor Zoo) has been taken by Hollywood and transported to America. After all, wouldn’t it be more fun if you had Scarlet Johansson playing a zookeeper with a broad westcountry accent? But hey ho, the movie’s been made, it is indeed Americanised, and now Matt Damon’s character decides to purchase the rundown Rosemoor Wildlife Park and do it up. Trying to get over the death of his wife, Damon and his two kids – along with a dedicated staff (including Johansson) – attempt to return the zoo to its former glory. The first trailer is now here, so click below to watch it, and mourn the lack of Devon-ness. The film reaches cinemas on December 23rd.
