Suicide Squad’s David Ayer May Direct Scarface Remake

20th May 2017 By Tim Isaac

David Ayer had a big hit with Suicide Squad (even if the critical reception was a little rough). Now he’s planning something that closer in tone to his earlier movies, such as Street Kings and End Of Watch. THR reports that Ayer is in talks to direct Universal’s planned remake of Scarface, following the departure of the previously attached Antoine Fuqua, who left due to scheduling conflicts.

Scarface first started out in 1932 when Howard Hawks directed the tale of the rise and fall of a violent gangster. However, most people remember Brian De Palma’s 1983 version starring Al Pacino as Tony Montana. The new version will change things once again, moving the action from Miami to LA and bringing it up to date to the modern day.

Diego Luna is set to the play the lead role in the movie.

Ayer’s next movie is Bright, will is Netflix’s first $100+ million movie, starring Will Smith, which is due to be released via the online service in December. Scarface should be released in cinemas sometime next year.

Final The Mummy Trailer – Tom Cruise needs a monster to defeat a monster

18th May 2017 By Tim Isaac

Universal has a lot riding on The Mummy, as they’re hoping they can rival Disney/Marvel and Warner/DC’s interconnected coming book universes, with a monster movie universe. They’re kicking that off with The Mummy, and they’ve got some a-list talent to help them, with Tom Cruise starring. Russell Crowe is also due to show up as Dr. Jeykyll/Mr. Hyde.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilisation: The Mummy.

‘Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

Cruise is joined by a cast including Annabelle Wallis (upcoming King Arthur, television’s Peaky Blinders), Jake Johnson (Jurassic World), Courtney B. Vance (TV’s American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson) and Oscar® winner Russell Crowe (Gladiator). The creative team on this action-adventure event is led by director/producer Alex Kurtzman and producer Chris Morgan, who have been instrumental in growing some of the most successful franchises of the past several years—with Kurtzman writing or producing entries in the Transformers, Star Trek and Mission: Impossible series, and Morgan being the narrative engineer of the Fast & Furious saga as it has experienced explosive growth from its third chapter on. Sean Daniel, who produced the most recent Mummy trilogy, produces alongside Kurtzman and Morgan.’

The film is due out in June. Take a look at the new trailer below. [Read more…]

Good Time Trailer – Robert Pattinson like we’ve never seen him before

18th May 2017 By Tim Isaac

After Twilight, the world was at Robert Pattinson’s feet. However, rather than trying to scramble ever further up the Hollywood tree in search over ever-larger paycheques, he’s decided to favour interesting and unusual films, as well as ones that can challenge him. That trend continues with Good Time.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Following the mind-bending HEAVEN KNOWS WHAT, celebrated filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie return to the mean streets of New York City with GOOD TIME, a hypnotic crime thriller that explores with bracing immediacy the tragic sway of family and fate.

‘After a botched bank robbery lands his younger brother in prison, Constantine Nikas (Robert Pattinson) embarks on a twisted odyssey through the city’s underworld in an increasingly desperate—and dangerous—attempt to get his brother out of jail. Over the course of one adrenalized night, Constantine finds himself on a mad descent into violence and mayhem as he races against the clock to save his brother and himself, knowing their lives hang in the balance.

Anchored by a career-defining performance from Robert Pattinson, GOOD TIME is a psychotic symphony of propulsive intensity crafted by two of the most exciting young directors working today. Josh and Benny Safdie’s transcendent vision is an intoxicating portrait of desperation and destruction that will not be soon forgotten.’

Take a look at the trailer below. The movie will be released later this year. [Read more…]

47 Meters Down Trailer – Mandy Moore & Claire Holt have Great White Shark problems

17th May 2017 By Tim Isaac

The movie business certainly owes an apology to sharks, as they regularly have to be the villain of the piece. That trend continues with 47 Metres Down, starring Mandy Moore & Claire Holt.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘On the rebound after a devastating break-up, Lisa (Mandy Moore) is ready for adventure while on vacation in Mexico. Even still, she needs a little extra persuasion when her daring sister Kate (Claire Holt) suggests they go shark diving with some locals. Once underwater in a protective cage, Lisa and Kate catch a once in a lifetime, face-to-face look at majestic Great Whites. But when their worst fears are realized and the cage breaks away from their boat, they find themselves plummeting to the bottom of the seabed, too deep to radio for help without making themselves vulnerable to the savage sharks, their oxygen supplies rapidly dwindling. 47 METERS DOWN is a terrifying tale of survival set in the domain of the ocean’s fiercest creatures.’

The film will be in US cinemas in June. Now UK dates is currently set. [Read more…]

Michelle Yeoh & Sonequa Martin-Green Appear In First Look At Star Trek: Discovery

17th May 2017 By Tim Isaac

If all had gone to the original plan, we’d have already seen the first episodes of Discovery, Paramount’s first foray in TV Star Trek since Enterprise went off air in 2005. However, various delays mean it won’t be arriving until later this year (no exact date has been announced yet).

With TV companies currently shopping their latest wares to potential advertisers and the media, the first character picture from the new Star Trek series has arrived, giving us our first glimpse at Michelle Yeoh‘s Captain Philippa Georgiou and Sonequa Martin-Green‘s First Officer Michael Burnham. Not too much is known about how they fit into the overall plot, but Burham is the First Officer on a ship called Discovery, while Georgiou commands another ship.

It has been said that the show is seen through the eyes of a female character who isn’t a captain, so it may be that it’s Martin-Green who is the focus of the show. Others involved include Jason Isaacs as Discovery’s captain, and Doug Jones playing a science officer who’s a member of an alien species new to the Star Trek universe. Also onboard is Anthony Rapp as astromycologist Lt. Stamets, who will be Star Trek’s first regular gay character.

Star Trek: Discovery will be released via CBS: All Access in the US, and Netflix in the rest of the world.

Hugh Jackman Gets Musical Again In First Pics From The Greatest Showman

17th May 2017 By Tim Isaac

Big budget original musicals are a rare thing in Hollywood (yes, we had La La Land, but that cost a relatively small – by Hollywood standards – $30 million), which makes The Greatest Showman something a little bit special. The first pictures from the movie, which stars High Jackman, Zac Efron, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya and Michelle Williams, have now arrived, and you can take a look at them below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘“The Greatest Showman” is a bold and original musical that celebrates the birth of show business and the sense of wonder we feel when dreams come to life. Inspired by the ambition and imagination of P.T. Barnum, “The Greatest Showman” tells the story of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a mesmerizing spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. It’s is directed by exciting new filmmaker, Michael Gracey, with songs by Academy Award winners Benji Pasek and Justin Paul (“La La Land”) and starring Academy Award nominee Hugh Jackman. Jackman is joined by Academy Award nominee Michelle Williams, Zendaya, Zac Efron and Rebecca Ferguson.’

The fact Pasek and Paul are on board is certainly a good thing, as their tunes were so vita to the success of La La Land. Take a loot at the first pics of The Greatest Showman below. The movie will be in UK cinemas January 2018. [Read more…]
