The Snowman Trailer – Michael Fassbender is tracking a serial killer in the Jo Nesbo adaptation

19th July 2017 By Tim Isaac

There have been a couple of good Scandinvian film adaptations of Jo Nesbo’s novels (Headhunters in particular), but now he’s going Hollywood, with a movie that will bring his most famous character, detective Harry Hole, to the screen. Michael Fassbender is taking on the role in The Snowman, which has just released its first trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Michael Fassbender (X-Men series), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission: Impossible—Rogue Nation), Charlotte Gainsbourg (Independence Day: Resurgence) and J.K. Simmons star in The Snowman, a terrifying thriller from director Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), based on Jo Nesbø’s global bestseller.

‘When an elite crime squad’s lead detective (Fassbender) investigates the disappearance of a victim on the first snow of winter, he fears an elusive serial killer may be active again. With the help of a brilliant recruit (Ferguson), the cop must connect decades-old cold cases to the brutal new one if he hopes to outwit this unthinkable evil before the next snowfall.’

The film is due out in the UK in October. Take a look at the trailer and first poster below. [Read more…]

The Shape of Water Trailer – Sally Hawkins meets an underwater creature in Guillermo Del Toro’s latest

19th July 2017 By Tim Isaac

If Guillermo Del Toro directs something, you know it’s going to be unique. Although with The Shape Of Water he seems to have been taking in a few inspirations, from the likes of ET and Amelie to the character of Abe Spien in Hellboy. It certainly looks like it could be something special.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From master story teller, Guillermo del Toro, comes THE SHAPE OF WATER – an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment. Rounding out the cast are Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones.’

The movie should be in cinemas at the end of the year. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Sandra Bullock Is Going Post-Apocalyptic Sci-fi In Bird Box

19th July 2017 By Tim Isaac

Things aren’t going to be going to well for Sandra Bullock, as she’s heading off into a post-apocalyptic future in Bird Box, which has just been snapped up by the streaming service, Netflix. Susanne Bier is set to direct the movie, from a screenplay by Eric Heisserer (The Arrival), according to THR.

The film is ‘Based on a 2014 novel by Josh Malerman, the story is set in the near future, where a mother (Bullock) and her two young children are among a small group of survivors after a mysterious alien force has driven the world’s population to deadly violence. The three must make their way on a terrifying journey – 20 miles in a rowboat – while blindfolded, with nothing to rely on but the mother’s wits and the children’s trained ears.’

Nope, doesn’t sound like Sandra gonna be having much fun!

The current plan is to start shooting the film in August. It should arrive on Netflix sometime next year.

Felicity Jones Will Be Ruth Bader Ginsburg In On the Basis of Sex

19th July 2017 By Tim Isaac

Following the massive success of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Felicity Jones is massively in demand. Just a few days ago it was revealed she’s signed up for a movie based on the story of the ballet, Swan Lake. Now she’s heading to the US Supreme Court, or at least to play a woman who’s heading there.

She will play Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the biopic On the Basis of Sex, based on Daniel Stiepleman’s Black List script.

Mimi Leder is set to direct the movie, which focuses of the obstacles Ginsburg faced during her fight for equal rights. As Variety notes, ‘Ginsberg was appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993 by President Clinton and became the second female justice after Sandra Day O’Connor. Focus Features has been developing the project since 2015 with Natalie Portman previously attached to play Ginsburg. Ginsburg is 84 and remains an associate justice who is part of the court’s liberal wing. She is one of three female justices on the current court along with Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.’

The film is due to start shooting in Montreal in September.
