Starring Tom Hardy (Inception, Warrior, The Dark Knight Rises), Deserter is a tension-packed war thriller set during Algeria’s bloody fight for independence. It comes to DVD on 23rd January and to mark it’s release, we have three copies to give away!

Based on a true story, a young Englishman, Simon Murray (Paul Fox), joins the French Foreign Legion. His idealistic illusions are soon shattered when he encounters his fellow recruits, including Dupont (Hardy), who have all volunteered to escape a past far less innocent than his own.

After a sadistic training regime, the fully-fledged Legionnaires set out to do battle and face deadly fire fights, ambushes and danger at every turn.  But soon, a change of allegiance threatens to tear loyalties apart and turn comrade against comrade. As Murray and Dupont now stand on opposite sides, who will become the hero and who will be the deserter?

Some love him, some hate him, but Lars Von Trier’s movies always get people talking. That’s certainly true of his latest Melancholia, which is out of DVD and Blu-ray on January 23rd. And we’ve got three copies to give away on DVD.

Nominated for the Palme D’Or and named ‘best movie of the year’ at the European Film Awards, Melancholia is an extravagant and beautiful story about the end of the world. It stars Kirsten Dunst (Spiderman, Wimbledon) – whose performance won her Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival – Charlotte Gainsbourg (The Tree, Antichrist), Kiefer Sutherland (24, The Lost Boys), Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood, Straw Dogs), Charlotte Rampling (Never Let Me Go, The Duchess) and John Hurt (Harry Potter, Tinker Tailor Solider Spy).

At a lavish ceremony hosted by her sister (Gainsbourg), the wedding of Justine (Dunst) and her fiancé (Skarsgård) is marred by fractious familial exchanges and Justine’s battle with her own inner demons. Meanwhile, the mysterious planet Melancholia emerges from behind the sun and appears to be headed on an apocalyptic collision course with the Earth. It’s a film that’s both like and unlike anything Von Trier has done before.

Det. Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise) and his crew of crime lab brethren are back, with CSI: NY – Season 7 hitting DVD on January 9th, 2012. Spanish cinema has been on a bit of a roll in the last few years with the likes of [REC], and now the latest thriller to arrive from the country, Cell 211, is coming to the UK and hitting DVD on January 9th, 2012. We’ve got three copies of the prison riot drama to give away in this great comp!

In the film, Juan Oliver is knocked unconscious during a prison tour on the day before he begins his new job as prison officer. He is rushed to the empty cell 211 and left to come around. Meanwhile, inmates of the high security wing break free and riots break out. When he awakes he realises he’s trapped and has to pretend to be a new prisoner in order to survive…

Engaging and intense, Daniel Monzón’s gripping prison drama swept the board at the Goya Awards (the Spanish equivalent of the Oscars), winning eight awards including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor. Paul Haggis (Crash) has already been asked to write the US remake and is rumoured to direct the project.

If you know what an ‘unsub’ or the ‘BAU’ is, then this is the comp for you.
