Paramount is hoping that despite an underwhelming response (and box office) for Transformers: The Last Knight, audience’s still like the bots enough that they’ll turn up for a spin-off concentrating on Bumblebee. It’ll also be the first Transformers movie now helmed by Michael Bay, with Travis Knight (Coraline, Kubo & The Two Strings) taking the director’s chair.
The first official image from the film has been released (shown above, click on it for a larger version), showing Bumblebee in his classic Volkswagen Beetle form, alongside the movie’s human lead, Hailee Steinfeld.
Here’s the synopsis for what sounds like a more action-packed version of Herbie: ‘On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.’
Pamela Adlon, John Cena, and Stephen Schneider also star. The film is due out December 26th 2018.
