After battling with the advanced AI the White Queen in the Resident Evil movies, Milla Jovovich will be becoming a Blood Queen for the planned reboot of Hellboy. As that name suggests, she will be the villain of the piece.
She joins David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy, with Ian McShane recently signing on as the big, red demon’s protector and mentor, Professor Broom, and Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) in talks to direct. It also looks like the film may be called Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, as that was included in Deadline’s first version of their story about Jovovich’s casting, although it was hastily removed.
The movie should start shooting in September, so expect to see it sometime in 2018 or early 2019. Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) is set to direct from a script by Aron Coleite, Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.
Starring: Milla Jovovich, Iain Glen, Ali Larter, Shawn Roberts, Eoin Macken
Believe it or not, Resident Evil is the most-successful videogame-to-movie franchise ever. Now it’s returning once more with a fifth film featuring Milla Jovovich as Alice – although as the title suggests, this one is planned as the last instalment (until they inevitably decide to reboot it).
