Kenneth Branagh Takes On Murder on the Orient Express As Both Director & Star

21st November 2015 By Tim Isaac

Kenneth-Branagh-slideAfter the likes of Thor and Cinderella, Kenneth Branagh is heading towards a classic murder-mystery, as THR reports he’s set to star and direct in Fox’s long-gestating remake of Agatha Christie’s Murder On The Orient Express.

As the title suggests, Christie’s novel is about a death on the world’s most famous train, as a man known as Mr. Ratchett is stabbed 12 times and killed. Hercule Poirot, who happens to be travelling on the Orient Express starts to investigating, discovering that many people could be the culprit.

There are suggestions that Fox is thinking of Murder On The Orient Express as the first of a potential franchise, with plenty more Poirot stories that could be adapted if this film is a success. Michael Green is writing the screenplay.

Brad Pitt Developing Sci-Fi Flick Illuminae

21st November 2015 By Tim Isaac

brad-pittBrad Pitt is putting on his producer’s hat again to make a movie adaptation of the recently published sci-fi novel by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, Illuminae, with Warner Bros. backing the movie, according to Variety.

It looks like an attempt to create a franchise, as the book is planned as the first part of the trilogy, so hopefully if the movie is a success, they’ll have plenty of ready-made material for sequels.

The novel, ‘centers on a hacker and her ex-boyfriend in the year 2575 with two rival megacorporations warring over a planet at the edge of the universe. With a plague breaking out, the duo is forced to evacuate the planet with a hostile warship in pursuit. The story is told through a dossier of hacked documents including emails, maps, files, IMs, medical reports and interviews.’

It’s not clear whether Pitt is looking at this as something he might want to star in, or just produce. It’s likely he’ll wait to see a script before deciding.
