The Goon ComicCon Trailer – First look at the David Fincher produced CGI comic adaptation

20th July 2010 By Tim Isaac

To help announce the fact it’s going to have a panel at ComicCon this Friday, a first look trailer has been released for The Goon (via MTV), a CGI adaptation of the cult Dark Horse comic, which David Fincher is producing. The Fight Club director will be on hand for the panel, as will Paul Giamatti, who voices on of the main characters in the film. The comic follows the adventures of a muscle-bound brawler who claims to be the primary enforcer for a feared mobster. The stories have a paranormal and comedic edge to them and concern ghosts, zombies, mad scientists and skunk apes. Click below for the short but rather cool teaser.

Gatchaman Teaser Trailer – The anime series gets the CG film treatment

19th July 2010 By Tim Isaac

It seems reports of the death of Imagi Animation, the company behind the CG versions of TMNT and Astor Boy, were a bit premature, as while many had thought the lack of success of those films had pretty much killed the company and ensured plans for a Gatchman film would never come to fruition, it appears Imagi is still just about kicking and hasn’t lost all hope (although it did shutdown briefly and restructure). However, before you get to excited, a word of caution. Imagi is in a lot of financial trouble due to the failure of Astro Boy, and had to issue a profit warning earlier this year when it became clear the company’s losses were going to grow substantially compared to what they’d projected. Now they’ve brought out this one-minute Gatchman teaser (made before the company’s restructuring), and it’s difficult to imagine it’s a conincidence that Imagi release their full annual financial report on Wednesday, which is expected to make grim reading.

As a result there’s no guarantee the Gatchman film will ever come to fruition, with the teaser more to try and say to investors that while their money may be going down the toilet at the moment, if they hang in there they may end up with something cool. So watch the pretty cool trailer below, but don’t take this as a guarantee we’ll ever see the finished film.

Biutiful Trailer – Full promo for Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu’s Cannes hit

19th July 2010 By Tim Isaac

Although a brief promo Alejandro González Iñárritu’s (Babel) Biutiful arrived while the film was being praised at Cannes, it’s only now that a full trailer has been released, thanks to Optimum. Javier Bardem plays Uxbal, a survivor on the invisible margins in today’s Barcelona, who tries to reconcile with love and save his children, as he tries to save himself. Involved in illegal dealing, his life changes when he is confronted by his childhood friend, who is now a policeman. Although it lost on the Palm D’Or, which many expected it to win (Bardem picked up the Cannes Best Actor prize though), the movie was still heaped with praise, so watch the trailer below in preparation for film’s release later this year.

First Proper The Social Network Trailer – This time featuring our first look at footage from the movie

16th July 2010 By Tim Isaac

In the last couple of weeks, a couple of teaser trailers (which you can watch here and here) have been released for David Fincher’s The Social Network, about the founding of Facebook. However they got a rather mixed reaction due to their unusual nature and the fact they only featured audio from the film, rather than actual footage. Now a new full trailer has emerged, which starts off in the same unusual way, with close-ups of stuff on Facebook, before moving into our first look at actual footage from the film, which stars Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Timberlake and Andrew Garfield. To be honest it’s still likely to divide audience, as while fairly intriguing, it doesn’t really show us why a movie about setting up the social networking site is worth watching, although it probably will be, as the fights and problems in the early days when the site became far more popular than anyone imagined are well known. Plus David Fincher is always a director to look out for, and you can’t imagine he’d get involved if he didn’t have a particular vision for the film. Click below for the trailer. The Social Network hits cinemas on October 15th.

The Town Trailer – Ben Affleck is back directing and starring in a new thriller

16th July 2010 By Tim Isaac

Although Ben Affleck probably wishes it were different, there’s little doubt that he got far more praise as the director of Gone Baby Gone than he ever did in anything he’s ever acted in. Now he’s back behind the camera with The Town, and also takes a role in the film, presumably hoping to elevate his reputation as a thespian from the bottom of the barrel. While the jury’s still out on him as an actor, The Town is getting some positive buzz, and now the first trailer has arrived. Based on Chuck Hogan’s novel, the film is about the leader of a group of armed robbers (Affleck) who’s planning their next heist, but starts to get close to the bank manager (Rebecca Hall) he briefly took hostage during their last robbery, even though she isn’t aware that’s who he is. The film also stars Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively, Peter Postlethwaite and Chris Cooper and should reach UK cinemas this autumn. Click below to watch the trailer.

15th July 2010 By Tim Isaac

It’s The Hangover meets Planes, Trains and Automobiles in this first trailer for Due Date. The film sees Hangover director Todd Phillips reuniting with Zach Galifianakis and bringing Robery Downey Jr onboard for the tale of a man (Downey Jr) who’s desperate to get home before his wife gives birth, who end up on an anarchic cross-country journey in the company of aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis). Now the first trailer for the film, which had originally been planned for a June release but has been moved back to early November, has been released, so click below to take a look.
