While a marketing promo trailer leaked online earlier this year, now the first proper, official trailer has arrived for the Edward Norton and Robert De Niro thriller Stone. Norton stars a convicted arsonist who tries to manipulate his parole officer (De Niro) into securing his freedom, by placing his beautiful wife (Jovovich) in his path as bait. While I’m not sure about Norton’s hairdo, it looks like it could be a pretty good film. Stone should hopefully be in cinemas later this year, but click below for the trailer.
New Buried Trailer – The Ryan Reynolds thriller goes a bit Saul Bass
Although there’s undoubtedly been a lot of buzz about Buried, in which Ryan Reynolds spends most of the movie trapped underground in a small coffin, with his air running out and only a mobile phone to help him, it’s undoubtedly gonna be a tough sell to general audiences, who are probably going to think it sounds boring. As a result they’ve come up with a new trailer that makes the whole thing very dynamic, with audio from the film and Saul Bass style visuals whizzing around (which fits with a recently released poster). The film reaches the UK on October 1st, but click below for the new trailer.
The Company Men Trailer – Affleck, Costner, Cooper and Jones deal with unemployment
Although a promo reel was released around the time of its Sundance premiere, a proper trailer for The Company Men has now arrived. Ben Affleck, Chris Cooper and Tommy Lee Jones play three men who become victims of corporate downsizing and have to redefine their lives as men, husbands and fathers. The film, directed by longtime TV producer John Wells (ER, Southland), also stars Kevin Costner and Maria Bello, and is already getting quite a lot of buzz. No UK release date has been pencilled in as yet, but take a look at the trailer below, which suggest this may be being pitched as potential Oscar-bait.
The Debt Trailer – Sam Worthington and Helen Mirren go Nazi hunting
In interviews Sam Worthington keeps saying he wants to do some movies that prove he can act, and don’t just involve him standing around looking pretty while lots of CGI swirls about him. Well, The Debt should let him flex his acting muscles, as he plays one of three young Israeli Mossad agents (the others two played by Jessica Chastain and Marton Csokas) who go on a secret mission in 1965 to capture and kill a notorious Nazi war criminal. However, 30 years later a man claiming to be the Nazi surfaces in the Ukraine and one of the former agents (now played by Ciaran Hinds, Helen Mirren and Tom Wilkinson) must go back undercover to seek out the truth. John Madden directs the film, which is due out at the very end of the year (just in time for Oscar consideration). Click below to watch the trailer.
Avatar Special Edition Trailer – Featuring a few new shots
The $2.7 billion grossing behemoth that is Avatar is heading back to cinemas on August 27th, and this time it’ll feature eight extra minutes of footage. According to James Cameron in the press release, “Audiences repeatedly told me they wanted more of Pandora, and wished they could have stayed there longer. So were making that possible. AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION will be exclusively in 3D, and will have eight minutes of never before seen footage, including new creatures and action scenes. Whether you already love the movie, or you’ve never seen it, with this Special Edition, you’ll be seeing it like never before.” Or you can translate as basically that as, “We wanted more money.” Now a new TV spot trailer has been released, featuring a couple of never before seen shots, so click below to take a look.
Faster Teaser Trailer – The Rock goes in search of revenge
Some teaser trailers tell you a lot about a film while others just want to get a simple message across. In the case of Faster it’s the latter, with the 56 seconds basically summed up with the words – revenge, The Rock, action. The film, directed by Geroge Tillam Jr. (Notorious), is about an ex-con (Dwayne Johnson), simply known as Driver, who sets out to avenge his brother’s death after they were double-crossed during a heist years ago. However, with Driver going on a single-minded revenge rampage, he’s soon being tracked by a veteran cop and an egocentric hit man. Faster is due out in November, but click below for the teaser.
