Hotel Artemis Red Band Trailer – Jodie Foster runs an ER for criminals

23rd May 2018 By Tim Isaac

When you read the synopsis for Hotel Artemis, it sounds like it should be part of the John Wick universe, but it must have a little more going for it than that to bring in a cast including Jodie Foster, Sterling K. Brown, Sofia Boutella, Jenny Slate, Zachary Quinto, Jeff Goldblum, Charlie Day, and Dave Bautista. Now we can take a look at the film with the first trailer.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Jean Thomas, aka THE NURSE (Jodie Foster) is the manager of the Hotel Artemis, an ultra-exclusive, members-only hospital hidden in a hotel redolent of faded ‘20s glamour. Tough, sharp and utterly fearless, The Nurse treats an assortment of assassins, gunrunners, thieves and gangsters in an unexpected state-of-the-art emergency room capable of providing a new liver with a 3-D printer or injecting a patient with nanobots that heal from the inside out. With the help of her towering assistant EVEREST, The Nurse wrangles some of the most dangerous criminals in the world, from sultry French assassin NICE and international arms dealer ACAPULCO, to bank robbers WAIKIKI and his brother HONOLULU.

‘One night as a violent riot rages on the streets of Los Angeles, legendary crime boss Orian Franklin, aka NIAGARA, arrives needing immediate treatment after a failed attempt on his life. Niagara’s sudden arrival creates a violent clash among the criminals in the hospital, with one ‘patient’ having a particularly deadly motive for checking into the hotel. The Nurse makes a decision that could jeopardize the future of the ER and everyone in it. Now the safest place for criminals in the city has become the most dangerous.’

The film hits cinemas on July 20th. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Snowden (Blu-ray Review)

3rd April 2017 By Tim Isaac

Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Shailene Woodley, Zachary Quinto, Melissa Leo, Tom Wilkinson
Directed By: Oliver Stone
Running Time: 134 mins
BBFC Certificate: 15
UK Release Date: April 4th 2017 (UK)

Our Score

Pretty much everyone has heard of Edward Snowden, but Oliver Stone wants to take us behind the headlines to look at the man himself and what he was exposing when he leaked top secret information about what spying agencies were up to. The movie opens at the end, with Snowden in a Hong Kong hotel room, preparing to go on record with what he knows and the information he’s releasing. Most of the rest of the film is told in flashback, when a young Ed is forced out of the military and gets a job at the CIA in the days after 9/11. Along with his new career, he starts a relationship with the lefty, arty Lindsay (Shailene Woodley).

Initially pleased to be helping the US prevent another major terrorist attack, but after working for the CIA and then as an NSA contractor, Snowden becomes increasingly uncomfortable with the massive surveillance network the government has built. Secret projects and operations allow the spying agencies to go far beyond just finding the bad guys, and give them the ability to hide illegal activities and mistakes, and to track pretty much anyone and everything they choose, whether they’ve done anything wrong or not. New Snowden Trailer – Oliver Stone directs Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the whistleblower tale

23rd July 2016 By Tim Isaac

joseph-gorden-levitt-as-edward-snowdenSnowden isn’t your usual Comic-Con fare, but the Oliver Stone film had a well-received panel in San Diego, which even included the real Edward Snowden participating via video link. For the rest of us, there’s a new trailer, which you can take a look at below.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Academy Award®-winning director Oliver Stone, who brought Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July, Wall Street and JFK to the big screen, tackles the most important and fascinating true story of the 21st century. Snowden, the politically-charged, pulse-pounding thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley, reveals the incredible untold personal story of Edward Snowden, the polarizing figure who exposed shocking illegal surveillance activities by the NSA and became one of the most wanted men in the world. He is considered a hero by some, and a traitor by others. No matter which you believe, the epic story of why he did it, who he left behind, and how he pulled it off makes for one of the most compelling films of the year.’

Shailene Woodley, Melissa Leo, Zachary Quinto, Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, and Nicolas Cage also star.

Snowden was originally due to be released at the end of last year, however it was pushed back to September 2016. Take a look at the trailer below. [Read more…]

Star Trek Beyond (Cinema Review)

21st July 2016 By George Elcombe

star-trek-beyondStarring: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Idris Elba, Simon Pegg
Directed By: Justin Lin
Running Time: 120 Minutes
Certificate: 12A
UK Release Date: 22nd July 2016

Our Score

Star Trek Beyond marks the 50th anniversary of the franchise and is the third instalment of the rebooted film series, this time directed by Justin Lin and co-written by Scotty himself, Simon Pegg.

Like many I had my doubts when Paramount announced they were going to retell the origins of the original series crew on the big screen, but I am pleased at how they have rebooted this franchise by creating an alternate timeline which respects and acknowledges all that came before and left a blank canvas for new crew. One thing J.J. Abrams injected into the reboot was a sense of fun and adventure akin to Indiana Jones or Star Wars, which this film also has bucket loads and isn’t a problem for this fan. Final Star Trek Beyond Trailer – Get ready to boldly go once more

19th July 2016 By Tim Isaac

star-trek-beyondBefore it even started filming, some had decided that the fact Fast & Furious helmer Justin Lin was directing Star Trek Beyond meant it was going to be a disaster. However, the early buzz is that they should have had a lot more faith, with many suggesting this it the best of the rebooted Star Trek bunch.

With only a few days until release, a final trailer has been released to ensure our appetites are suitably whetted.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘”Star Trek Beyond,” the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew.  In “Beyond,” the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.’

The film will be in cinemas on Friday. [Read more…]
