Fahrenheit 451 Trailer – Michael B Jordan & Michael Shannon star in the new take on Ray Bradbury’s classic

8th April 2018 By Tim Isaac

Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 is undoubtedly a classic, which was previously turned into a film in 1966 by Francois Truffaut starring Oskar Werner and Julie Christie. Now it’s getting a new movie version from 99 Homes helmer Ramin Bahrani.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Starring Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon, Fahrenheit 451 is based on Ray Bradbury’s classic novel. In a future where the media is an opiate, history is rewritten and “firemen” burn books, Jordan plays Montag, a young fireman who struggles with his role as law enforcer. Battling his mentor, fire captain Beatty, played by Shannon, he forsakes his world in an effort to regain his humanity.’

Rather than coming to cinemas, the movie with first screen on HBO in the US on May 19th. It’s not clear how/when we’ll get it in the UK. [Read more…]

The Shape of Water (Cinema Review)

14th February 2018 By Mike Martin

Starring: Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Octavia Spencer, Doug Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg
Directed by: Guillermo del Toro
Running Time: 123 mins
BBFC Certificate: 15
UK Release Date: February 14th 2018

Our Score

Guillermo del Toro is a frustrating, baffling director at times. But boy, when he gets it right… and this loving tribute to b-movies and monster pictures of the 1960s is right up there with his considerable best.

Even his most hardcore fans would admit it’s easy to spot when his heart isn’t in a film. Pacific Rim was his attempt at a blockbuster movie, but it was as hollow as a child’s toy and had about as much longevity. Crimson Peak was a partial return to form, but still lacked heart. Here though we are firmly back in Pan’s Labyrinth and Devil’s Backbone territory. It’s beautiful, structured, detailed and very moving. [Read more…]

The Shape of Water Red Band Trailer – Guillermo del Toro has a brand new fantasy

11th November 2017 By Tim Isaac

If Guillermo Del Toro directs something, you know it’s going to be unique. Although with The Shape Of Water he seems to have been taking in a few inspirations, from the likes of ET and Amelie to the character of Abe Spien in Hellboy. It certainly looks like it could be something special, and early feviews from film festivals suggest the Pan’s Labyrinth and Pacific Rim director hasn’t lost his touch..

Here’s the synopsis: ‘From master story teller, Guillermo del Toro, comes THE SHAPE OF WATER – an other-worldly fairy tale, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Sally Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment. Rounding out the cast are Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones.’

The movie is out in the US at the end of the year, with a February UK date set. Take a look at the new Red Band trailer below. [Read more…]

The Current War Trailer – Benedict Cumberbatch’s Thomas Edison wants electrical supremacy!

8th September 2017 By Tim Isaac

The Current War has been doing the round in Hollywood for over five years, but it’s only now that it’s gone in front of the camera. The first trailer for the film has now been release, featuring Benedict Cumberbatch as the legendary Thomas Edison.

The movie takes place in the late-1880s and revolves around power titans Edison and George Westinghouse’s as they battle over who will control the supply of electricity in the US. Edison championed direct current (DC) for electric power distribution over Westinghouse’s alternating current (AC), which was backed by several European companies and Westinghouse Electric. It became an increasingly vicious public battle as each side tried to destroy confidence in the other.

Michael Shannon plays Westinghouse, with Katherine Waterston, Tom Holland, Matthew Macfadyen, Tuppence Middleton, and Nicholas Hoult as Nikola Tesla. [Read more…]

Wolves Trailer – Michael Shannon gamble away his teenage son’s future

29th January 2017 By Tim Isaac

Synopsis: ‘From the famous courts of West 4th Street, to the tenements over looking the bridges of the lower east side, Wolves paints an original, diverse, and emotional portrait of a boy becoming a man in New York City.

’18-year-old, Anthony Keller is a high school basketball star. Now in his senior year he is being recruited by Cornell University, a dream come true. Called “Saint” by everyone at his school (St. Anthony’s), he does his best to live up to his name. He is captain of his team, a good student, has a long time girlfriend and some good friends. But the ease with which he moves through his life is a facade. At home, Anthony struggles with his troubled Father, Lee Keller, (Michael Shannon) and his gambling addiction. Anthony’s Mother, Jenny, (Carla Gugino) has made it her mission to keep the family afloat but has done so only with great emotional and financial sacrifice.

‘As Anthony approaches the end of his senior year and the city finals, he is faced with adversity from all sides, and the stakes are high. He must find his own definition of what it means to be a man, both on and off the court, and in doing so he is confronted with the decision of a lifetime.’
