Milla Jovovich Will Be Getting Villainous In The Hellboy Reboot

8th August 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

After battling with the advanced AI the White Queen in the Resident Evil movies, Milla Jovovich will be becoming a Blood Queen for the planned reboot of Hellboy. As that name suggests, she will be the villain of the piece.

She joins David Harbour (Stranger Things) as Hellboy, with Ian McShane recently signing on as the big, red demon’s protector and mentor, Professor Broom, and Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) in talks to direct. It also looks like the film may be called Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen, as that was included in Deadline’s first version of their story about Jovovich’s casting, although it was hastily removed.

The movie should start shooting in September, so expect to see it sometime in 2018 or early 2019. Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) is set to direct from a script by Aron Coleite, Andrew Cosby, Christopher Golden and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola.

Ian McShane Will Be Professor Bloom In The Hellboy Reboot

5th August 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

A couple of months ago it was announced that with the idea of a third Guillermo Del Toro directed Hellboy movie well and truly dead, a reboot is in the works. David Harbour (Stranger Things) is already attached to the the central role, and Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) in talks to direct.

Now the movie has found its Professor Bloom, the man who in the original comics found the infant Hellboy when he’d been summoned to Earth by the Nazis during the Second World War, and then taken him to America and raised him. The man who’s stepped in the role is Ian McShane, according to THR.

Some has expressed surprise at McShane’s casting, as Broom is usually seen as a rather small, bookish man, as opposed to the British actor’s more dangerous, muscular persona. The movie should start shooting in September, so expect to see it sometime in 2918 or early 2019.

American Gods – Season 1 (DVD Review)

30th July 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

Starring: Ricky Whittle, Ian McShane, Emily Browning, Pablo Schreiber, Gillian Anderson
Directed By: Various
Running Time: 450 mins
BBFC Certificate: 18
UK Release Date: July 31st 2017

Our Score

Quite a lot of people have tried to get Neil Gaiman’s 2001 novel to the screen, but it’s never happened until now. Despite being beloved by a lot of people, you can see why the money men were nervous about ponying up the cash for a film or TV version, as the book is often strange, surreal and quite graphic, with various tangents and peculiar moments that could be unintentionally funny in the wrong hands.

However, executive producer Bryan Fuller was the right man to hire, as with the likes of Hannibal and Pushing Daisies he’s shown an affinity with unusual, multi-layered tale that often verge towards the surreal. He certainly brings that to American Gods, which is often perplexing and weird, and will annoy some due to the fact it obstinately refuses to fully explain what going on. [Read more…]

John Wick: Chapter 2 (Cinema Review)

15th February 2017 By George Elcombe Leave a Comment

Starring: Keanu Reeves, Riccardo Scamarcio, Ian McShane
Directed By: Chad Stahelski
Running Time: 122 Minutes
UK Release Date: 17th February 2017
BBFC Certificate: 15

Our Score

For those who didn’t watch the first film let me summarise, and for those concerned about spoilers the story is retold within the first few minutes of the sequel.

John Wick’s wife has recently passed away from an undisclosed illness, and he receives a puppy from her a few days later. Some Russian gangsters then break into his house, beat him up, steal his car, and kill his puppy. It transpires that John used to work for said gangsters father as a legendary assassin. Cue lots of carnage and some of the best choreographed gunplay you have seen on screen, including plenty of headshots. [Read more…]

John Wick: Chapter 2 Super Bowl Spot – The action flick trolls Fifty Shades fans

6th February 2017 By Tim Isaac Leave a Comment

You wouldn’t think those people who can’t wait for the release of Fifty Shades Darker would be the same ones hoping to watch John Wick: Chapter 2, but the action movie decided to have a bit of fun with them with its Super Bowl spot. The short ad initially looks like it will be for Fifty Shades, before revealing itself to be something else.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘In this next chapter following the 2014 hit, legendary hitman John Wick [Keanu Reeves] is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.’

Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, John Leguizamo and Ian McShane also star, with Chad Stahelski directing. The film will be out in the US on Friday and arrives in the UK on February 17th. [Read more…]
