Lady In The Van Trailer – Alan Bennett gets an unexpected driveway guest (in the form of Maggie Smith)

26th February 2015 By Tim Isaac

Alan Bennett has had huge success as a writer on projects as diverse as History Boys and The Madness Of King George. The soft-spoken Yorkshireman has become a beloved figure, but Lady In The Van takes a look at a lesser known chapter in his life.

However it’s one that seems fitting for Bennett, quietly eccentric, oddly British and rather sweet.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘Lady in the Van tells the true story of the relationship between Alan Bennett and the singular Miss Shepherd, a woman of uncertain origins who ‘temporarily’ parked her van in Bennett’s London driveway and proceeded to live there for 15 years.’

Maggie Smith is the lady, with Alex Jennings as Bennett. Alan himself wrote the script, and the movie features many of those who’ve worked with him before, including History Boys James Corden and Dominic Cooper and Madness Of King George director Nicholas Hytner.

A Quartet Of New Pics From Fantastic Four Emerges – One for each of the heroes

26th February 2015 By Tim Isaac

We’ve had a teaser for Fantastic Four, but we still haven’t seen an awful lot from Josh Trank’s reboot on the Marvel superheroes. Now though Empire has debuted four new pics, one four each of the main characters, featuring Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic, Kate Mara as the Invisible Woman, Michael B. Jordan as The Human Torch and Jamie Bell before he gets rocky as The Thing.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.’

The film is due out in August, but you can take a look at the new pics above and below.

25th February 2015 By Tim Isaac

The breakout film from the 2014 Cannes Film Festival, IT FOLLOWS is a contemporary horror exploring teen sex, suburbia, and the stuff of nightmares – a cult classic in the making from one of the most exciting filmmaking talents around. Iron Man Gets An Avengers: Age Of Ultron Banner – Robert Downey Jr. is back

25th February 2015 By Tim Isaac

After yesterday’s full Avengers: Age Of Ultron posters, it’s time for one of the characters to get their own poster – and it’s not too surprising that first up is Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man/Tony Stark, who’s looking as cool as you might expect – even if he is responsible for creating the movie’s villain.

Here’s the movie’s short synopsis: ‘When Tony Stark jumpstarts a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as they battle to save the planet from destruction at the hands of the villainous Ultron.’

It stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, Stellan Skarsgård with James Spader and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

Avengers: Age Of Ultron reaches the UK on April 23rd 2015 (and a week later in the US).

Eastenders’ Ben Hardy Joins X-Men: Apocalypse – Playing a key character

25th February 2015 By Tim Isaac

It seems the people behind X-Men: Apocalypse really wanted Ben Hardy in the movie. He was in contention to play Cyclops, which went to Tye Sheridan, and the Eastenders actor was also considered to play Angel, but he didn’t get that either.

However now it’s been revealed that he will be in the movie, although it’s not clear which character he will play. The role is described as being a key Marvel character, so let the speculation as to who it will be begin.

He joins the likes of Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult in the movie, who will be going up against Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse, an ancient mutant with extraordinary powers that dwarf those of most others. It will be set in the 1980s.

The film is due out May 2016.

Jessica Chastain Up For Huntsman – Nick Frost also joins Chris Hemsworth in the Snow White sequel

25th February 2015 By Tim Isaac

It’s taking a long time to get the follow-up to Snow White & The Huntsman ready for the big screen but it finally seems to be coming together.

Chris Hemsworth is still around – indeed he’s at the centre as the movie is just called Huntsman – and now Deadline reports that Emily Blunt has finalised her deal to play the villain, and that Jessica Chastain is now in talks for the film, although it’s not clear what her role will be.

Last month it appeared Nick Frost wouldn’t be back after being unable to come to terms with Universal, but now it seems he’ll return after all.

Unfortunately we don’t have too many details about what the film will be about, but we do know Cedric Nicolas-Troyan is directing from a screenplay that’s been worked on by the likes of Frank Darabont, Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos. An April 2016 release date has been set.
