I Don’t Know How She Does It Trailer – Sarah Jessica Parker tries to be a super-mum

27th May 2011 By Tim Isaac

You’d think ‘I Don’t Know How She Does It’ would just be what most people say when asked how Sarah Jessica Parker stays famous, but now it’s the title of her new movie. The first trailer has appeared, and you can watch it below. She plays Kate Reddy, who devotes her days to her job with a Boston-based financial management firm. At night she goes home to her adoring, recently-downsized architect husband Richard (Greg Kinnear) and their two young children. It’s a non-stop balancing act, which gets toughter when Kate gets handed a major new account that will require frequent trips to New York, and Richard also wins the new job he’s been hoping for – meaning both will be spreading themselves even thinner.

I do get confused as to why Hollywood thinks audiences will care about the difficulties rich people have juggling their lives, children, careers and still finding time to roll around in giant piles of crash, but it often seems to work. If SJP was having difficulty ‘cos she was working in a diner in a dead-end town, with a feckless hubby who can’t/won’t get a job and two kids with ADHD, that might be interesting, but sadly no, I Don’t Know How She Does It is yet another installment of America’s obsession with the family troubles of people who should just hire a frigging nanny. The film is due out September 16th.

New The Smurfs Trailer Arrives – The little blue ones hit the Big Apple

26th May 2011 By Tim Isaac

Yay, Smurfs! How can you not love Smurfs? Well, I’d imagine that the more cynical among us might stop loving them after this trailer, which suggests the movie might a bit of a Marmite proposition, with Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays’s New York lives are turned upside-down by the arrival of the little blue creatures. It’s odd though that while the Smurfs themselves are CG, the most cartoon-ish aspects appears to be the live-action villain, Gargamel, played by Hank Azaria. The film hits UK cinemas August 10th, but click below for the new trailer.

Shark Night 3D Trailer – When will sharks get to be the good guys?

26th May 2011 By Tim Isaac

Sharks need to set up and anti-defamation league, as they get a pretty bad rap in Hollywood. They never get to be the romantic lead, or indeed the plucky sidekick. Nope, they’re always the bad guys, chomping on pretty young women in bikinis. It’s species-ist, that’s what it is. The latest movie to cruelly force sharks into the role of villain is Shark Night 3D, in which a sexy summer weekend turns into a blood-soaked nightmare for a group of college students trapped on an island surrounded by voracious underwater predators in Shark Night 3D, as they try to negotiate a lake that has been stocked with hundreds of massive, flesh-eating sharks! The film, from The Final Destination director David Ellis, is sue in cinemas September 23rd, but click below for the trailer.

The Descendants Trailer – George Clooney faces the difficulties of being the back-up parent

26th May 2011 By Tim Isaac

It’s been seven years since the critically acclaimed Sideways, and while director Alexander Payne has been attached to all manner of project since then, he’s had difficulty getting one off the ground. However he’s now back with The Descendants, starring Geroge Clooney, which is currently due out in the UK January 20th, 2012. While that’s a few months away, the first trailer and poster for the film have arrived, which you can see above and below. Clooney stars as an indifferent husband and father of two girls, who is forced to re-establish his relationship with his daughters after his wife suffers a boating accident off of Waikiki.

Salvation Boulevard Trailer – Pierce Brosnan is preaching the word, real estate and murder

25th May 2011 By Tim Isaac

It’s difficult to tell from this trailer whether Salvation Boulevard will be fun or dumb, but it certainly has a good cast, including Greg Kinnear, Pierce Brosnan, Ed Harries, Jennifer Connelly and Marisa Tomei. Here’s the synopsis: Salvation Boulevard is a modern comedy based on the book of the same title by Larry Beinhart about Pastor Dan Day (Brosnan), a charismatic evangelical preacher who has captivated a small western American town with his charm – and the promise of a sweet real estate development.

Carl (Greg Kinnear) is a former follower – not of Christ, but of the Grateful Dead – who has since become “found” in Dan’s Evangelical community, serving as one of the preacher’s great examples of spiritual and moral transformation. But Carl’s new belief system is turned upside down when he witnesses a sinful act that Pastor Dan’s doughy henchman (Jim Gaffigan) aims to cover up.

In the meantime, Carl finds himself on the run, torn between Honey (Marisa Tomei), a security guard who still follows the Dead and partakes in those pleasures, and his militantly devout wife (Jennifer Connelly) and her daughter (Isabelle Fuhrman), who is herself on the eve of taking a vow of sexual purity.

No UK release date has been yet been set, but it out in the US in July, so expect it sometime after that.

The Muppets Teaser Trailer – Plus a new poster that’ll have you Green With Envy

24th May 2011 By Tim Isaac

Although you deliberately wouldn’t know it from the first part of this teaser, the first trailer for The Muppets has arrived, which like the new fake movie poster above, initially suggests it’s marketing a soppy rom-com, before Kermit and co. turn up to bring a bit of Muppety life to proceedings. Here’s the synopsis: On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel – who also co-wrote the script) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. The film should reach cinemas later this year.
