New Larry Crowne Trailer – Tom Hanks has a bit of a mid-life crisis with Julia Roberts

13th June 2011 By Tim Isaac

A new, internet-only trailer for the Tom Hanks directed flick Larry Crowne has shown up, which gives a good look at the movie, and features the ultimate way to spice up a promo – put George Takei in it! In the film Hanks plays affable, amiable Larry Crowne, who was a superstar team leader at the big-box company where he’s worked since his time in the Navy, until they unexpectedly fired him. Underwater on his mortgage and unclear on what to do with his suddenly free days, Larry heads to his local college to start over. There he becomes part of a colourful community of outcasts, also-rans and the overlooked, all trying to find a better future for themselves. In his public-speaking class, Larry develops an unexpected crush on his teacher, Mercedes Tainot (Roberts), who has lost as much passion for teaching as she has for her husband. The film is set for UK release on July 1st, but click below for the trailer.

New Cowboys & Aliens Trailer – Fresh look at the action-packed Jon Favreau summer flick

13th June 2011 By Tim Isaac

Undoubtedly one of the most interesting of the big summer flicks is the upcoming Cowboys & Aliens, which sees Iron Man director Jon Favreau taking on the western-meets-sci-fi comic book, with Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell starring. Now a new trailer, with plenty of the never-before-seen footage, has arrived, which makes this even more of a must-see than it was before. The movie is about a man with no memory (Craig), who stumbles into a wild west town, only to discovers that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). However Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by alien marauders from the sky. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. The trailer was first shown during Spike TV’s Guy’s Choice Awards in the US, but click below to take a look. The film hits cinemas on August 19th.

Super 8 Viral Video – Get your first (partial) look at the creature in JJ Abrams’ film

10th June 2011 By Tim Isaac

Although we’re rudely being made to wait until August until we can see JJ Abrams Super 8, the Yanks are getting it this weekend, and to up the interest, a viral video has been released that gives us our first look at the monster, as part of a faux, air force documentary. Admittedly it’s not a full view of the creature, but at least we know it’s got very long arms! The video has been gradually revealed over several months, with new bit added as part of a ‘Super 8 Editing Room’ viral campaign, with people allowed to piece the film together as new bits were ‘found’. Now the whole thing has been released, so click below for your first look at the creature.

The Inbetweeners Teaser Trailer – The boys go big screen and on holiday

9th June 2011 By Tim Isaac

While The Inbetweeners has been very successful on TV, whether that can translate to big screen success is yet to be seen, but they’re giving it a go anyway, with a movie version due in cinemas on August 19th. Now the first teaser trailer has arrived, with Will, Neil, Simon and Jay embark on holiday to Malia, a party town for mainly young British tourists on the Greek island of Crete. And if they felt slightly outside of mainstream teenage society in their suburban hometown, then that feeling is magnified a thousand times in one of Europe’s hedonistic hotspots. Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Emily Head from the TV series all star, so click below to get your first look.

The Help UK Trailer – Emma Stone gets involved in 60s polite-society race relations

9th June 2011 By Tim Isaac

It seems the 2012 Oscar race has already begun, as with an October 28th release and an Academy Award friendly plot, it would appear the Help is positioning itself for a bit of an awards run. If the trailer is anything to go by, it may well have a shot at a fair few nominations.

Here’s the official synopsis: ‘Based on one of the most talked about books in years and a #1 New York Times best-selling phenomenon,  The Help stars Emma Stone (Easy A) as Skeeter, Academy Award-nominated Viola Davis (Doubt) as Aibileen and Octavia Spencer as Minny – three very different, extraordinary women in Mississippi during the 1960s, who build an unlikely friendship around a secret writing project that breaks societal rules and puts them all at risk. From their improbable alliance a remarkable sisterhood emerges, instilling all of them with the courage to transcend the lines that define them, and the realization that sometimes those lines are made to be crossed—even if it means bringing everyone in town face-to-face with the changing times.’

It is kind of interest that the synopsis completely avoids any mention of race, which is odd as the movie is all about Skeeter writing a book about black maids, which upsets the racial and social balance of 60s Southern society. Click below for the new trailer.

8th June 2011 By Tim Isaac

While in most respects this is just a glorified trailer for Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part II, but with added comments from the cast and crew, it’s a very good one and has something that ensures it’s well worth a look. The featurette opens with the very first screen test featuring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, back when they were cute little nipper’s preparing to make Philosopher’s Stone, and then zooming us through to see the rather more grown up actors now.
