Robert Pattinson is certainly trying to show there’s more to him than lovestruck vampires throught the likes of Water For Elephants, Remember Me and Cosmopolis. And later this year he’ll be starring in Bel Ami, an adaptation of Guy De Maupassant’s novel. The film tells the story of George Duroy’s (Pattinson) calculated rise to the top of Parisian high society in the 1890s, via the beds of the citys most glamorous and influential women. Uma Thurman will play the wife of Duroy’s friend, who helps George’s rise to the top, thanks to her society connections. Also in the film will be Kristin Scott Thoman, as a socialist who falls for Duroy’s charms, but gets too clingy in the process. Declan Donellan directs, and you can click below for the first trailer. You have to wonder though, does Pattinson know the name Bel Ami and his character in the movie, George Duroy, have been coopted in recent years by one of the world’s most successful gay porn companies? (Thanks to HeyUGuys for the heads up).
