It’s mainly Jennifer Lawrence running through a forest, but if you’re already interested in the film, it should up the anticipation. Lawrence is heading a cast that also includes Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks and Stanley Tucci, to tell the tale of a future society where the US has broken down into separate factions, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in The Hunger Games. The Rum Diary Trailer – Johnny Depp returns to Hunter S. Thompson land

26th August 2011 By Tim Isaac

Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas is undoubtedly one of Johnny Depp’s greatest roles, and now he’s travelling back into the mind of Hunter S. Thompson with an adaptation of another one of his books, The Rum Diary. Once more playing a Thompson alter-ego, The Rum Diary tells the increasingly unhinged story of itinerant journalist Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp). Tiring of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, Kemp travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local newspaper, The San Juan Star, run by downtrodden editor Lotterman (Richard Jenkins). Adopting the rum-soaked life of the island, Paul soon becomes obsessed with Chenault (Amber Heard), the wildly attractive Connecticut-born fiancée of Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart). Sanderson, a businessman involved in shady property development deals, is one of a growing number of American entrepreneurs who are determined to convert Puerto Rico into a capitalist paradise in service of the wealthy. When Kemp is recruited by Sanderson to write favourably about his latest unsavory scheme, the journalist is presented with a choice: to use his words for the corrupt businessmen’s financial benefit, or use them to take the bastards down. The film’s due out on November 4th.

The Lady Teaser Trailer – Luc Besson takes on Aung San Suu Kyi with Michelle Yeoh

26th August 2011 By Tim Isaac

The Lady has already seen Michelle Yeoh banned from Burma, with the military government not keen on her playing Nobel Prize winning political leader and activist Aung San Suu Kyi. Aung is famed for having spent 15 of the last 20 years under house arrest due to the miltary rulers of Burma not taking kindly to her pro-democracy campaigning, but the movie will focus on the years between 1988 and 1999. During this time she returned from Oxford to Burma to visit her sick mother, but decided to stay and fight for democracy, leaving her husband, Michael Aris, behind in England after he was refused entry to Burma. The film will follow her valiant struggle, which involved her political party winning an election but then not being allowed to take office by the military junta that runs Burma, as well as being under house arrest for decades for very dubious reasons. The Lady will build up to the point when her husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer. It’s believed that at that point, Burma’s leaders offered her the chance to leave the country, but if she did, she’d never be allowed to return and continue her fight. Click below to take a look at the teaser trailer.
