A Few Best Men Trailer – The director of Priscilla goes back to the outback with Kris Marshall

24th October 2011 By Tim Isaac

After Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert, we didn’t hear a huge amount from director Stephan Elliot, partly because he nearly died in a skiing accident. However he returned a couple of years ago with the British period comedy, Easy Virtue. Now he’s helmed a full-on Anglo-Australian production with A Few Best Man. In this comedy of ill manners, Elliot returns to the outback, where a groom (Xavier Samuel) and his ‘best men’ (Kris Marshall and Kevin Bishop) head in order to marry his Aussie bride. However, the class roles are topsy-turvy, with the Aussies – including Olivia Newton John as the mother of the bride – as arbiters of taste, charm and conservative family values, and the incoming Brits as scud-missiles of scatology. Click below to take a look. The film is due out next year.

The Flowers Of War Trailer – Christian Bale gets caught up in the Nanjing Massacre

21st October 2011 By Tim Isaac

The Flowers Of War is an interesting movie, as it could be a sign on things to come. In recent years Hollywood studios have been trying to get into business in China, seeing it as a massive market that’s growing exponentially, but The Flowers Of War does things the other way around, with Chinese studios bringing in Hollywood talent for a big budget flick. Christian Bale stars, presumably in the hope the film will have global appeal, and top Hollywood effects studios have also been engaged to ensure the big-budget movie is spectacular. The film sees Bale as a priest caught up in the events following the fall on Nanjing to the Japanese in 1937, with the plot revolving around a groups of Chinese sex workers who volunteer to replace university students as forced escorts for invading soldiers. Taking in the Nanjing massacre, it promises to be a powerful and somewhat controversial movie (Nanjing is still a fiery issue in Chinese-Japaense relations) from Hero helmer Yang Zhimou.

Chronicle Trailer – Having special powers gets out of hand for three teens

20th October 2011 By Tim Isaac

Here’s a movie which could have a lot potential, although it’s still to early to say whether it can live up to the ideas it’s got. Written by John Landis’ son Max, three high school students make an incredible discovery, leading to them developing uncanny powers beyond their understanding. As they learn to control their abilities, and use them to their advantage, their lives start to spin out of control, and their darker sides begin to take over. It looks like it’s been made in semi-found footage fashion and has a good feel for teens. It’ll be out early next year, but click below for the trailer.

New Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows Trailer – The detective and Watson track down Moriarty

20th October 2011 By Tim Isaac

This is a trailer that’s basically just seems to want to tell us that if we likes Sherlock Holmes, we’ll like this one too – and seeing as the first movie was a lot of fun, A Game Of Shadows promises the same. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law are back as Sherlock and Watson, this time going after the criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris). Not only is he Holmes’ intellectual equal, but his capacity for evil, coupled with a complete lack of conscience, may actually give him an advantage over the renowned detective. Guy Ritchie once more directs, and the film will be in cinemas on December 16th, but click below for the trailer.

New Adventures Of Tintin Trailer – Spielberg’s motion capture flick won’t be lacking in spectacle

18th October 2011 By Tim Isaac

The first reviews have been coming in for The Adventures Of Tintin, and they’ve mostly been very good. While a few people are still uncertain about motion capture, the general feeling is that Spielberg has come up trumps with his interpretation of Herge’s world. The movie arrives in UK cinemas on October 26th, but now a trailer new shown up to help us get in the mood, and it’s certainly action-packed, with a bit more plot that we’ve had before. The Devil Inside Trailer – Exorcisms never seem to go well, do they?

18th October 2011 By Tim Isaac

If the movies are to be believed, the church is absoltuely rubbish at exorcisms and really shouldn’t be allowed near possessed people. In The Devil Inside, we’re promised something a little different, with a priest trying to use a mix of science and faith to help those who’ve got a bit of a supernatural problem inside them. On the evidence of this trailer though, it still doesn’t go very well. The movie’s due out early next year, but if you’d like a taste of this latest attempt to jump on the Paranormal Activity bandwagon, click below.
