New This Must Be The Place Trailer – Sean Penn puts on makeup and hunts Nazis!

23rd December 2011 By Tim Isaac

It’s Sean Penn as we’ve never quite seem him before, as a fading, androgynous rock star who sounds oddly like Droopy the Dog. In the intriguing This Must Be The Place, Penn plays Cheyenne, a wealthy former rock star, now bored and jaded in his retirement, who embarks on a quest to find his father’s persecutor, an ex-Nazi war criminal now hiding out in the US. Learning his father is close to death, he travels to New York in the hope of being reconciled with him during his final hours, only to arrive too late. Having been estranged for over 30 years, it is only now in death that he learns the true extent of his father’s humiliation in Auschwitz at the hands of former SS Officer Aloise Muller – an event he is determined to avenge. So begins a life-altering journey across the heartland of America to track down and confront his father’s nemesis. Penn’s characters certainly makes an unlikely avenger. Click below for the new international trailer. The film’s set for UK release on April 6th.

Fresh Bel Ami Trailer – Robert Pattinson is certainly getting down with the ladies

23rd December 2011 By Tim Isaac

It seems Robert Pattison doesn’t want us to think he’s just a drippy vampire – he wants to be seen as a stud! He’ll be shagging his way through 1890s French society in Bel Ami, based on Guy De Maupassant’s novel. The film tells the story of George Duroy’s (Pattinson) calculated rise to the top of Parisian high society via the beds of the city’s most glamorous and influential women. Uma Thurman plays the wife of Duroy’s friend, who helps George’s rise to the top, thanks to her society connections. Also in the film will be Kristin Scott Thoman, as a socialist who falls for Duroy’s charms but gets too clingy in the process. Declan Donellan directs. It’s out on March 2nd. You have to wonder though, does Pattinson know the name Bel Ami and his character in the movie, George Duroy, have been coopted in recent years by one of the world’s most successful gay porn companies?

Prometheus Trailer – Going back into the world of Alien is getting exciting

22nd December 2011 By Tim Isaac

After 20th Century Fox spent the last few days bigging up the release of a trailer for Prometheus (by releasing trailers for the trailer), they needed to deliver something worthwhile. Now that trailer is here and while it’s only a minute long it’s difficult not to get excited. Although in interviews Ridley has tried to distance the movie from Alien, suggesting it’s not a prequel in the way you’d normally think (there’ll be no xenomorph, for example), this trailer puts it smack bang in the same world, with a nod to Alien in both the production design and the way the title is revealed. It’s undoubtedly very cool and sets Prometheus up as one of the must watch flicks of 2012. Let’s just cross out finger Ridley can pull it off. Prometheus hits cinemas June 1st, 2012.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Trailer – Take your first look at Bilbo and company

21st December 2011 By Tim Isaac

This first trailer for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey seems in large part about assuring us we really are going back into Middle Earth, and it’ll be the proper one, with Ian McKellen, Cate Blanchett and Gollum. It has very much the same feel as Lord Of The Rings, which is what you’d hope and Martin Freeman seems a good fit as Bilbo. It very much an introduction back into the fantasy world, but it certainly seems this two part Hobbit adventure is on the right track! The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits cinemas on December 14th, 2012.
