Detachment Trailer – Tony Kaye is back in the director’s chair with Adrien Brody

18th January 2012 By Tim Isaac

While American History X was much praised, one person who wasn’t as impressed was director Tony Kaye, who’d tried to have hi name taken off the movie due to what he saw as studio interference. He failed and it gave him a bit of a reputation (as well as souring him on making films). As a result it’s only now that he’s made another movie, Detachment. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Adrien Brody is Henry Barthes, a substitute teacher who conveniently avoids any emotional connections by never staying anywhere long enough to form a bond with either his students or colleagues. A lost soul grappling with a troubled past, Henry finds himself at a public school where an apathetic student body has created a frustrated, burned-out administration. Inadvertently becoming a role model to his students, while also bonding with a runaway teen who is just as lost as he is, Henry finds that he’s not alone in a life and death struggle to find beauty in a seemingly vicious and loveless world. Kaye has molded a contemporary vision of people who become increasingly distant from others while still feeling the need to connect. Detachment features a stellar ensemble cast, including Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden, Christina Hendricks, William Petersen, Bryan Cranston, Tim Blake Nelson, Lucy Liu, Blythe Danner, James Caan, and newcomers Sami Gayle and Betty Kaye.
Now the trailer a poster have dropped, so enjoy!

Meaning Of Robots Trailer – A decade of making a robot sex film in your apartment

17th January 2012 By Tim Isaac

An official selection for this year’s Sundance, Meaning Of Robots is certainly one of the more unusual documentaries around. The benevolent Mike Sullivan, age 65, has been shooting a stop-motion robot sex film in his apartment for the last 10 years. Obsessed with constructing the miniature robot porn stars, his apartment now overflows with thousands of them, physically squeezing him out of the very space he needs to shoot his epic. Take a look at the trailer below.

Black Gold UK Trailer – Antonio Banderas fights for the future of Arabia

17th January 2012 By Tim Isaac

Set in early 20th Century Arabia at the dawn of the oil boom, Black Gold centres on a young Arab prince torn between allegiance to his conservative father and modern, liberal father-in-law. He dreams of a realm of infinite possibility, a kingdom with roads, schools and hospitals all paid for by the black gold beneath the barren sand. There is only one problem. The precious oil is located in a no man’s land between two rival tribes, with the peace between the sides relying on this buffer zone, but with oil under the sand, it turns into a war over control of the future. The film stars Tahar Rahim, Mark Strong, Antonio Banderas and Freida Pinto and hits UK cinemas February 24th.

Full Casa de mi Padre Trailer Hits – Will Ferrell shows off his Spanish skills

16th January 2012 By Tim Isaac

Will Ferrell deciding to make a Spanish-language movie always sounded like a strange proposition and that opinion is unlikely to be changed by the trailer for Casa De Mi Padre. The film, made in the overblown, melodramatic style of Latin American telenovelas, see Ferrell as Armando Alvarez, who has lived and worked on his father’s ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando’s younger brother Raul (Diego Luna) shows up with his new fiancé, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul’s success as an international businessman means the ranch’s troubles are over, as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul’s business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal). The film should hit cinemas later this year.

Friends With Kids Trailer – John Hamm and Kristen Wiig deal with unusual baby arrangements

12th January 2012 By Tim Isaac

After writing and starring in Kissing Jessica Stein, Jennifer Westfeldt’s popped up in all sorts of projects. Now she’s making her directorial debut with Friend With Kids, and has enlisted the likes of John Hamm, Jennifer Westfeldt, Adam Scott, Kristen Wiig, Edward Burns, Maya Rudolph and Chris O’Dowd to star in it. A comedy of modern relationships and children rearing sees Westfeldt and Scott as two best friends who decide to have a child together while keeping their relationship platonic, so they can avoid the toll kids can take on romantic relationships. Their friends don’t think it can possibly work, but it seems to, until they start dating other people once the baby is born.

Red Tails – Seven Minute Preview – George Lucas gives us a good look at the WWII flick

11th January 2012 By Tim Isaac

It’s taken a long time to get Red Tails from shoot to cinema (it filmed well over two years ago), but the George Lucas produced Red Tails is finally on its way, and while there’s no definite UK date yet, it’s released in the US later this month. In hope of getting people excited, a seven minute preview of the movie has been released, which largely shows off the spectacular aerial dogfight footage (Lucas has said it’s the closest people will ever get to Star Wars VII), as well as a few quieter scenes. The film is about a crew of African American pilots in the Tuskegee training program, who, having faced segregation and been kept mostly on the ground during World War II, are called into duty under the guidance of Col. A.J. Bullard.
