Is the world ready to forgive Mel Gibson? He’s hoping so, as he’s invested a lot of his own cash in Get the Gringo (formerly known as How I Spent My Summer Vacation), in which he stars as a career criminal who is nabbed by the Mexican authorities and placed in a tough prison where he learns to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy. The film hits UK cinemas on May 11th, but now the first trailer is here. Personally, I have a feeling this isn’t the movie that’ll give Mel a much needed hit.
Shame – Picturehouse Hackney Q&A with Michael Fassbender – Lengthy chat with the star of the much praised movie
Just before the release of Shame, Michael Fassbender took part in a special post-screening Q&A, filmed at the Hackney Picturehouse and beamed to cinemas around the country. If you missed out on the live broadcast, it’s now been posted online, with Fassbender talking for half an hour about the film and his role in it. As he’s been much praised and admired for playing a sex addict in the film, he’s got some interesting things to say, so the Q&A is well worth a watch.
The Cold Light Of Day Trailer – Bruce Willis gets kidnapped & only Henry Cavill can save him
If you’re going to get kidnapped, it certainly helps if the person looking for you is Superman! The Cold Light Of Day sees Henry Cavill – who’ll be putting on the Man Of Steel’s cape later this year – going off on holiday to Spain with his parents (Bruce Willis & Caroline Goodall). When they’re kidnapped, Cavill sets out to find them and falls headlong into an ever deepening conspiracy. The film aslo stars Sigourney Weaver and is due to hit cinemas this spring. For now, enjoy the trailer.
The Artist Blooper Reel – Uggie the dog is cute even when he’s screwing up
The Artist has been charming audiences around the world and the bookies say that the smart money is on the movie to win big at the Oscars. Now a blooper reel has been released, which shows that the film is charming even when things don’t quite go correctly. Although if you thought Uggie was the most talented dog in history, you may be upset to see that sometimes he made mistakes too!
New Mirror Mirror Trailer – Toning down the camp for the Snow White tale
When the first trailer for Mirror Mirror arrived online, the main reaction to the OTT farce on display was, ‘What the hell is that?’ It’s fair to say that in the battle of the Snow White movies, the Mirror Mirror teaser was roundly trounced by the entrancing first look at Snow White & the Huntsman. Now a new Mirror Mirror trailer has arrived, which tones things down and makes things look more traditionally fairy tale-esque and palatable.
Here’s the synopsis: ‘Mirror Mirror is a spectacular reimagining of the classic fairy tale starring Oscar® winner Julia Roberts as the Queen, Lily Collins (The Blind Side) as Snow White, Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as Prince Alcott, Sean Bean (“The Game of Thrones”, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) as the King and Nathan Lane (The Lion King, The Birdcage) as the Queen’s hapless and bungling servant, Brighton.
‘An evil queen steals control of a kingdom and an exiled princess enlists the help of seven resourceful rebels to win back her birthright in a spirited adventure comedy filled with jealousy, romance and betrayal that will capture the imagination of audiences the world over.
‘Visionary director Tarsem Singh (Immortals) rewrites fairy tale history as a wicked enchantress (Roberts) schemes and scrambles for control of a spirited orphan’s (Collins) throne and the attention of a charming prince (Hammer). When Snow White’s beauty wins the heart of the prince that she desperately pursues, the Queen banishes her to the forest, where a ravening man-eating beast hungrily awaits.
‘Rescued by a band of diminutive highway robbers, Snow White grows into an indomitable young woman determined to take back her realm from the treacherous Queen. With the support of her subjects, she roars into action in an epic battle that blends spectacle, magic and contemporary humor in Singh’s signature, jaw-dropping visual style.’ The film is due out March 16th.
New Lockout Trailer Surface – Guy Pearce goes all Snake Plissken in a space prison
For ages there were plans to remake Escape From New York, and while those have fallen through, we’re getting something very similar with Lockout, which stars Guy Pearce as a wrongly convicted criminal who’s offered his freedom if he can rescue the president’s daughter (Maggie Grace) from an outer space prison that’s been taken over by violent inmates. From the evidence of this trailer, Pearce is definitely channelling the spirit of Snake Plissken. The Luc Besson co-written flick is due out April 13th, 2012.
