It’s not often a movie wins an Oscar and the next day you can watch the entire thing online for free, but you can with the winner of this year’s Animated Short category, The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. The film managed to beat Pixar’s much-praised La Luna, so if you’d like to see why, you can take a look. It would seem though that the movie’s visual style was Pixar inspired, and it is a lot of fun.
John Carter White Ape Fight Sneak Peek – Taylor Kitsch has a bit of a battle on his hands
One of the centrepieces of the John Carter marketing push has been a big battle between the title character and what are being referred to as ‘white apes’ (that’s what they were called in Edgar Rice Burroughs original stories), which are impressively ugly, six-limbed behemoths that want to tear Carter to bits. Now an extended sneak peak at the effects filled battle has popped up online, which is well worth a look, and not just for the fight-scene itself, as it also includes a lot of very cool footage from a film that’s starting to get some really strong buzz. The film hits cinemas on March 9th.
The Dictator: Admiral General Aladeen Comments On His Oscar Ban – Sacha Baron Cohen responds in character
While it’s been difficult to separate the truth from the publicity stunt, in the last few days there’s been a bit of fuss over whether Sacha Baron Cohen was planning on attending the Oscars in character as Admiral General Aladeen from his upcoming movie The Dictator. Intial reports said the Academy had banned him, but they responded saying he wasn’t banned but that the stunt was unwelcome. New Brave Clip – See 2.5 minutes of the movie – Plus a fresh poster for Pixar’s upcoming flick
Brave is something a little bit different from Pixar – but then, you can say that about pretty much every new movie they make – and now a new two and a half minute clip from the movie, featuring some Celtic highland games and young warrior Merida showing what a headstrong woman she can be. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland. In “Brave, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald) confronts tradition, destiny and the fiercest of beasts. Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus (voice of Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (voice of Emma Thompson). Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin (voice of Kevin McKidd), surly Lord Macintosh (voice of Craig Ferguson) and cantankerous Lord Dingwall (voice of Robbie Coltrane). Meridas actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Wise Woman (voice of Julie Walters) for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before its too late.’ It’s out in the UK on August 13th.
Fresh American Pie: Reunion Trailer – The boys are back in town
A new trailer for American Pie: Reunion is here, keen to say that while it’s been several years since we last caught up with Jim, Oz, Stifler and co. things are very much the same and although they’ve grown up, their teenage selves still lurk inside. Here’s the synopsis: ‘In the comedy American Pie: Reunion, all the American Pie characters we met a little more than a decade ago are returning to East Great Falls for their high-school reunion. It was summer 1999 when four small-town Michigan boys began a quest to lose their virginity. In the years that have passed, Jim and Michelle married while Kevin and Vicky said goodbye. Oz and Heather grew apart, but Finch still longs for Stiflers mom. Now these lifelong friends have come home as adults to reminisce aboutand get inspired bythe hormonal teens who launched a comedy legend.’ The film hits cinemas May 2nd.
