27th June 2012 By Tim Isaac

Oh the hilarity, Kevin James as a Mixed Martial Arts fighter. No, I’m not gonna book my ticket yet either. However that’s the plot of Here Comes The Boom, with James as former collegiate wrester Scott Voss, who’s now a 42-year-old apathetic biology teacher in a failing high school. When cutbacks threaten to cancel the music program and lay off its teacher (Henry Winkler) Scott begins to raise money by moonlighting as a mixed martial arts fighter. Everyone thinks Scott is crazy – most of all the school nurse, Bella (Salma Hayek) – but in his quest, Scott gains something he never expected as he becomes a sensation that rallies the entire school. It’s due out November 9th.

27th June 2012 By Tim Isaac

Stop-motion films always take a long time to make, but Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie is finally on its way, with an October 17th, 2012 release date set. Disney has released a new trailer for the movie, which as with previous promos, suggests it’s great fun. Here’s the synopsis: ‘From creative genius Tim Burton (“Alice in Wonderland,” The Nightmare Before Christmas”) comes “Frankenweenie,” a heartwarming tale about a boy and his dog. After unexpectedly losing his beloved dog Sparky, young Victor harnesses the power of science to bring his best friend back to life—with just a few minor adjustments. He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new “leash on life” can be monstrous. A stop-motion animated film, “Frankenweenie” will be filmed in black and white and rendered in 3D, which will elevate the classic style to a whole new experience.’

26th June 2012 By Tim Isaac

Just yesterday, Aaron Eckhart signed up to play the President in Olympus Has Fallen, and now the film has another star as Variety reports that Angela Bassett will also appear in the movie, which Antoine Fuqua is directing.

The film centres on Gerard Butler’s former Secret Service agent who tries to save the White House after terrorists attack the presidential residence. The plot has been described as Die Hard in the White House. Bassett is due to play the head of the Secret Service, in charge of protecting the President.

The movie is quite similar to Roland Emmerich’s White House Down, which is also racing into production with Jamie Foxx as the President and Channing Tatum as the Secret Service Agent who must take the White House back. Both movies will shoot later this year for release in 2013.
