Item 47 – Marvel One Shot Clip Released – Plus poster and pic for the Avengers tie-in short

15th July 2012 By Tim Isaac

In the run up to The Avengers, Marvel released a couple of ‘One-Shot’ short films, which helped bring the superhero threads together in preparation for the big mash-up. Now they’ve made another slightly longer short, which follows on from The Avengers and seems like it could be part of a plan to build towards a S.H.I.E.L.D. movie.

Here’s the synopsis: ‘S.H.I.E.L.D. recovered all but one… a Chitauri weapon, aka “ITEM 47.” After a young couple, Benny (Jesse Bradford) and Claire (Lizzy Caplan), stumble into finding the elusive weapon, they embark on a bank robbing spree. With S.H.I.E.L.D. agents (LOST’s Titus Welliver and AVENGERS’s Maximiliano Hernandez) hot on their trail, it’s only a matter of time before the couple have to pay for their crimes.’

Item 47 is available on Marvel Avengers Assemble Blu-ray, out 17th September in the UK. Watch a clip from the film below the poster.

13th July 2012 By Tim Isaac

Comic-Con has kicked off an San Diego, but us normal people don’t have to miss out completely, as following it’s presentation at the event, Disney has now put the first trailer for Sam Raimi’s Oz The Great And Powerful online. It appears the movie will follow The Wizard Of Oz’s trick of having the real worls in black and white, while Oz will be in colour, although the fantastical world is has been given a bit of a CG makeover. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry—Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.’

Frankenweenie – Comic-Con Trailer – Bringing your dog back from the dead!

13th July 2012 By Tim Isaac

As part of their Comic-Con panel, Disney unveiled a fun new trailer for Frankeweenie, which reveals more plot and is done in the entertaining style of a 1950s-type horror movie promo. It gives a great look at the stop motion film, and shows that while it may be in black and white, it has a beautiful style, as you’d expect from director Tim Burton. The movie will hit UK cinemas on October 17th.

New Gangster Squad International Trailer – Ryan Gosling takes on a criminal Sean Penn

11th July 2012 By Tim Isaac

Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and – if he has his way – every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. Gangster Squad is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time. It’s due out November 9th.

Goats Trailer – David Duchovny has one hell of a beard

11th July 2012 By Tim Isaac

Goats seems like one of those eccentric films that could either be great fun or just ridiculous, and from this trailer it’s difficult to tell which. In the film, Ellis (Graham Phillips) is the most adult member of his eccentric family at 15 years old. His mom (Vera Farmiga) is a New Age hippie that spends all of her time working on self-help rituals with her hustler boyfriend (Justin Kirk). His dad (Ty Burrell) left home years ago and is more focused on his new wife (Keri Russell) and family. And then there’s Goat Man (David Duchovny), the goat-herding sage who has lived in their pool house since Ellis was a child, teaching him the meaning of stability, commitment, and expanding one’s mind.
