Lawless Red Band Trailer – More violence from the star-studded prohibition-era drama

22nd August 2012 By Tim Isaac

There’s a lot of good buzz surrounding Lawless (we’ve seen it and out review will be up shortly before its September 7th UK release). Now a new red band trailer for the film has arrived, which ups level of violence and skin for the prohibition-era drama. Directed by John Hillcoat from a script by him and Proposition cohort Nick Cave, Lawless is based on Matt Bodurant’s book about the author’s grandfather and two great-uncles, who were part of a fierce criminal gang at the centre of the US’s moonshine trade during prohibition. The story also follows a writer named Sherwood Anderson, who is on the trail of the bootlegging gang. The film has a great cast, with Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain, and Mia Wasikowska onboard.

The Barrens Trailer – Stephen Moyer takes on a legend of American folklore

22nd August 2012 By Tim Isaac

Darren Lynn Bousman made his name directing Saw sequels and has since made the likes of Repo!: The Genetic Opera, Mother’s Day and 11-11-11. His latest offering is The Barrens, which takes on a slice of dark American folklore. Here’s the synopsis: ‘It’s known as the Jersey Devil, the winged beast spawned 400 years ago by Satan himself. Some say this creature still inhabits the dense pine forests of southern New Jersey, where Richard Vineyard (Moyer) takes his family for a rustic weekend camping trip. As the Vineyard family ventures further into the woods in search of the perfect campsite, Richard teeters on the edge of sanity. Welcome to a new kind of horror that lives – and kills – in a place called The Barrens. Mia Kirshner, Erick Knudsen and Allie MacDonald also star.’

Stolen Trailer – Nic Cage must do one more heist to save his daughter

20th August 2012 By Tim Isaac

After Trespass and Justice, Nicolas Cage continues his love of generically named thrillers (which can preferably be shot near his home in New Orleans) with Stolen, and the trailer for the film has now arrived. In the film, Will Montgomery (Cage) is a master thief who after being double-crossed in a heist gone awry is sent to prison for eight years. Upon his release he’s ready to leave his criminal past behind and try to rebuild a relationship with his estranged daughter Allison. The FBI and his old cohorts believe that he hid the loot from the last heist 8 years ago, $10 Million in Bonds. To get his hands on it, his old partner Vincent (Josh Lucas) kidnaps Allison and demands the entire $ 10 Million as ransom. Keeping her in the soundproofed trunk of a Taxi Cab, he’s able to stay mobile amongst the throngs of taxis out during Mardi Gras day making it nearly impossible to find. Montgomery only has one day to get the $10 Million ransom but much to the disbelief of the FBI on his trail and Vincent, Will doesn’t actually have it. Instead, he must trust his instincts and his old partner in crime, the beautiful, sexy and smart Riley (Malin Ackerman), to do one more clever heist to get his daughter back alive before it’s too late. Simon West (Con Air, Expendables 2) directs.
