Avengers Assemble could have started on a slightly bleaker note, with New York covered in rubble and SHIELD’s Maria Hill bemoaning what happened, and then the rest of the film told in flashback. Marvel has now released this opening, ahead of the movie’s DVD/Blu-ray release on September 17th. Although I’m glad this didn’t make it into the movie, it’s interesting as it would have set a different tone and also has the kind of self-knowing attitude Joss Whedon is known for. Take a look.
Fresh Trailer For The Master Debuts – New look at Paul Thomas Anderson’s film
After waiting what seems like eons for a new Paul Thomas Anderson movie (There Will Be Blood was back in 2007), The Master is nearly here, with a November 9th UK release date now set. Now a new trailer has been released. Set in America in the years following World War II, a charismatic intellectual (Philip Seymour Hoffman) launches a faith-based organisation and taps a young drifter (Joaquin Phoenix) as his right-hand man. But as the faith begins to gain a fervent following, the onetime vagabond finds himself questioning the belief system he has embraced, and his mentor.
Butter Trailer – Jennifer Garner dedicates herself to carving butter
Butter got a mixed reception during its festival run late last year, but it’s certainly got a good cast, including Jennifer Garner, Ty Burrell, Hugh Jackman, Olivia Wilde and Alicia Silverstone. When her husband is unceremoniously asked to step down after taking first prize for fifteen years as the master Butter Carver at the Iowa State Fair, the limelight-seeking, ultra-competitive Laura Pickler (Garner) takes on a 12-year-old, African-American butter sculpting prodigy in a butter carving contest of epic proportions. Not UK release is currently set.
Passion Trailer – Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace team up with Brian De Palma
Theyre really playing up the potential lesbian undertones of Passion, although I have a horrible feeling its more to appeal to the baser instincts of straight men than because this will actually be a good depiction of womens desire. Brian De Palma teams up with Noomi Rapace and Rachel McAdams for a thriller about a young businesswoman plots murderous revenge after her boss and mentor steals her idea. The movie is a remake of the French movie, Love Crime. No release date is currently set.
The Sapphires Trailer – Chris O’Dowd turns Australian band manager
Chris O’Dowd is heading for Australia and taking on an Aboriginal girl group in The Sapphires, and the trailer for the movie is now here. Here’s the synopsis: ‘Chris ODowd (Bridesmaids, The I.T. Crowd) takes centre-stage as a band manager with a penchant for whisky and a passion for soul music, who spots the sparkling talent of an unlikely girl-band in this feel-good charmer inspired by a true story. The Sapphires is out in cinemas November 2nd 2012.’
The Knot Trailer – Mena Suvari & Noel Clarke take on a wedding comedy
I’m pretty sure women didn’t burn their bras in the 1960s so that nearly all films made for a female audience could be about weddings, but it’s an oddly popular subgenre, even if they’re getting more indentikit as time goes on. The latest is The Knot, which mixes UK and American talent for a bit of a wedding comedy. Here’s the synopsis: ‘The Knot is a romantic comedy starring a host of British and American acting talent; including Mena Suvari (American Beauty, American Pie), Talulah Riley (St Trinian’s, Pride & Prejudice), Matthew McNulty (Control, Looking for Eric) Noel Clarke (Centurion, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll), Jason Maza (Fish Tank, Shifty) and Juliet Oldfield (Bronson).
‘Soul mates Alexandra (Talulah Riley) and Jeremy (Matthew McNulty) are getting married. At least that’s the plan. Unfortunately for them, nonchalant best man Peter (Noel Clarke), bridesmaid Sarah (Mena Suvari) and an army of naysayers haven’t heard they’re meant to be together. Can missing bridesmaids, crashed cars, a trip to A&E, and a delivery of pig’s testicles stand in the way of true love?’
